With winter on the brink and a new year approaching, the days are shorter, deadlines are closer, and with more time spent inside, it is especially important to build your personal resiliency through challenges.

As we move forward, building resiliency is made easier with a few strategies.

Mindfulness. Taking time to reflect on your body and your mind will allow you to meet your personal needs in order to be your most productive self. Are you tense? Are you lethargic? What thoughts are occupying your mind?

Compassion. Stay gentle with yourself and with others. Practice patience. While motivation can be a challenge, it is harder when you are too critical of yourself. Lean on others for social support and provide a source of love for them as well.

Activity. Take breaks from long stretches of sitting or inactivity at work or school. Be active in your relationships. Reward yourself with spontaneity.

Consistency. Find ways to feel in control with a daily routine. Wake up to a set alarm, eat regular meals, take time at the end of the day for yourself, meet with friends each week. Creating consistency in your life reduces the stress of feeling out of control.

Refresh. Boost your motivation with reminders of your goals. Where are you headed? What do you want to achieve? Remind yourself of your passions.

Use these strategies as insight as you face challenges this week and throughout the coming winter.

Effects of Exercise and Physical Activity on Anxiety

Despite the commonality of exercise fads and promises of trendy workout regimens to burn calories or build muscle, exercise is essential for health in many other ways besides cosmetic purposes. While most of us understand the physical
benefits of an active lifestyle, the link between exercise and mental health is often overlooked.

"Exercise improves one’s self-esteem, and a sense of wellbeing. Individuals who exercise regularly exhibit slower rates of age-related memory and cognitive decline in comparison to those who are more sedentary...Adults who engage in regular physical activity experience fewer depressive and anxiety symptoms, thus supporting the notion that exercise offers a protective effect against the development of mental disorders (van Minnen et al., 2010)."

Along with the hormonal changes, such as the release of endorphins, exercise also gives the body practice with performing under conditions of stress involving a heightened heart rate that is often associated with stress. It provides an opportunity to set a goal and fulfill it which boosts self-efficacy, especially as fitness improves. Spirituality is an immaterial aspect of our health, unique to each of us, developed from our beliefs, ideas, and values. Our spiritual health manifests into, and can be monitored by, our physical and mental well-being.

LiveVivacity believes that each individual's distinct spirituality should be honored and supported by our community. While religion is one common expression of spirituality, we work to celebrate and promote the practice of spiritual health developed through many other means as well.

Mindfulness is a way of being, of seeing, of tapping into the full range of our humanity. There are so many positive ways to practice mindfulness, whether it be meditating, listening, connecting with your senses, taking a walk, or even eating mindfully. Some benefits of mindfulness include decreased anxiety, stress reduction, more cognitive flexibility, less emotional reactivity, better focus all around, mental clarity, the ability to relate to others through kindness, compassion, and acceptance and so much more. Each of these touch on your mental, physical, social, and spiritual health - the four dimensions of health that LiveVivacity represents through holistic health and wellness. Balancing all four health aspects into your life isn’t always easy, but practicing mindfulness is a great way to incorporate them all in a way that you can make it what you want it to be. You are in full control. Make the effort to be constantly mindful throughout your day and look forward to seeing the amazing results.

The time has come! The event page for LiveVivacity's SECOND Glow in the Dark Hike is up and registration is open! Just a quick overview...

RSVP to the event is done through Eventbrite and IS required, however, ONLY THE FIRST 200 to show up will be able to hike. We suggest an early arrival time if you want to secure your spot, but we cannot guarantee the opportunity to hike with us if all of the spots are full. The eventbrite ticket does not include secured admission.

We are so excited to share this experience with you again and provide knowledge about the importance of our mental, physical, social, and spiritual health through a night full of adventure, exploration, and community.

UPDATE: Although we are completely sold out of tickets for the August 12th Glow in the Dark Hike, we are in the process of scheduling a SECOND Glow in the Dark Hike for a later date again in August. Unfortunately, due to our legal restrictions, we CANNOT ACCEPT ANY hikers that do not already have a ticket through our Eventbrite. We do have a waitlist set up for this specific event, however, it is not likely that many spots will open up. If you did not secure a ticket this time around, but wish to be involved in the next one, be sure to tune into our social media frequently to get early access to the next registration.

This is a great way to get out of the house, get involved, help others, meet new people, explore possible career paths, discover new interests and hobbies, and best yet, enhance our own personal health & wellness. LiveVivacity believes that by volunteering in the community, we are able to grow and progress through the four pillars of health that we represent - Mental, Physical, Social, and Spiritual - all while doing good for OTHERS and creating a happier & healthier YOU! Some examples of the volunteer opportunities will include: Planting trees, soup kitchens, canned food drives, healthy pot lucks for the homeless, building domesticated housing, writing letters to our veterans, and so much more. Just a few days have passed since our very first event, Yoga @ Sunset & Meditation Under the Stars in the heart of Boulder, and the LiveVivacity team has done a lot of reflecting and reviewing of our ex*****on and our movement all around. First off, we are so incredibly thankful to everyone who made it out on the beautiful evening of the event. The energy and emotions throughout the yoga and meditation were powerful and moving. We are so grateful to have led everyone who joined us that night to connect with us and themselves - mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually.
