To***co and other products which contain ni****ne are very addictive and this is why they are so hard to stop using. It may be hard to stop smoking but it is not impossible to do with the right help and support. Understanding the addiction can help some people make a quit attempt as they can identify possible triggers and challenges to quitting.

Here are some ways you make your next quit attempt a positive one:

Reflect on every cigarette that you smoke and rate on a scale of 1 to 10 on how much you 'need' it or if it is because you are bored or anxious. This will help you think about what ones may be challenging to give up.

Be prepared with Ni****ne replacement therapy or other medication which is free from your local community pharmacy

Plan your quit day by getting rid of all smoking related products prior to your quit day

Use medication and attend weekly sessions at your pharmacy

Tell friends and family not to offer you any ci******es

Reward yourself with the money that you have saved from buying ci******es.

Good luck !!!

GP surgeries will be closed on 25-28 December 2025 and 1-4 January 2026. They will be open as normal on 29 December and 5 January.
If you have a non-urgent health issue over the festive holidays, please wait until your GP surgery reopens, contact a local community pharmacy or visit www.nhsinform.scot for answers to common health questions and symptom checkers.

If you think you need A&E, but it’s not life-threatening, call NHS 24 on 111 day or night.

If it’s an emergency, you should call 999 or go to A&E. Do not attend A&E with a problem that you would normally see your GP with. This will allow A&E to concentrate on emergencies.

This week sees some of the team attending Letham4All.

The Community Fridge is often mistaken as a Food Bank but the Community Fridge is open to anyone regardless of their financial circumstances, no referrals are needed and it can be visited as often as you like. Think about all the good food that gets wasted by local supermarkets and suppliers – that’s what inspired some local people to develop a Community Fridge, where good food is freely available to be used in the community to help tackle climate challenges.

Being a smoker affects so many things, from health to finances. Quitting smoking can boost all of this and more, it can help enhance personal wellbeing and even improve mental health.

If you're in Perth on Friday 12th Dec between 2pm and 4pm, come along and chat with the Quit Your Way Team about how you can quit for good this year while also reducing food waste!

Of course, what each and everyone of us does has an impact on others and the environment, to***co has a massive negative impact on our environment. Here are just some of the ways it impacts... can you think of others?

Environmental

Cigarette butts are one of the largest single type of litter and over time each butt will break apart into microplastics, seeping toxic chemicals including arsenic, lead, formaldehyde and ni****ne into the earth and watercourses

Vapes - littering of these is a huge issue as some studies say that less than 17% of these are recycled correctly

Research conducted by the University of Edinburgh shows that shops selling to***co are more common in the most deprived areas. This is a factor associated with higher smoking rates in these areas.

To***co crops increase deforestation - Around 3.5 million hectares of land are destroyed for to***co growing each year. To***co curing cause green to***co sickness - is an occupational poisoning that can affect workers who cultivate and harvest to***co. It occurs when workers absorb ni****ne through the skin as they come into contact with leaves of the mature to***co plant. GTS is characterized largely by nausea, vomiting, headache, muscle weakness, and dizziness
