As we all know (and may be experiencing) this time of the year brings with it a higher possibility of catching a cold or flu. Along with the usual recommendations like fluids, rest and immune boosting herbal formulas, I would like to add some dietary suggestions.
I believe in staying away from dairy products or at the very least, cutting down on them drastically. They are mucus forming, putting a load on body/respiratory systems that are already struggling to clear out congestion. Add some fresh garlic and ginger to your meals. As soon as I feel like I'm "getting something", I make a pot of soup and add a whole minced clove of garlic to every bowl I have throughout the day. Rarely does it develop into a full-blown cold or flu. Garlic is a strong antibiotic and antioxidant, is anti-inflammatory, an immune booster and detoxifier.
Add ginger to some dishes and/or make a warming ginger tea with lemon and honey. Delicious and powerful! Ginger is great for digestion, yes, but also for respiratory infections, chills, congestion, coughs, aches and pains and sore throats.
Add this powerful trio of essential oils for building, strengthening and protecting the body and defense mechanisms. Alternate the oils in your diffuser and when rubbing them on the bottoms of your feet, throat and chest and back.
