🧠 Does a person with dementia know they’re confused?
Sometimes, yes, especially in the earlier stages.

A loved one living with dementia may still be aware that their memory isn’t what it used to be. They might feel confused, struggle to follow conversations, or find it hard to make everyday decisions. That awareness can lead to worry, frustration or sadness, not just for them, but for family too.

As dementia progresses, memory loss and confusion often become more severe. Over time, the person may no longer realise what’s happening, and their awareness can fade.

It’s not always easy to know how they’re feeling,or what they might need in that moment. But one thing never changes: they still need patience, kindness and gentle reassurance.

💜 Coming Home from Hospital? You’re Not Alone 💜

Whether you’re returning home yourself or supporting a loved one, the first few days after a hospital stay can feel overwhelming. Recovery takes time and it’s okay to need a little help along the way.

Here are 7 gentle reminders to help make recovery safer and more comfortable at home:

Follow your doctor’s advice: It’s easy to forget things after discharge. Keep any written instructions close by.

Take medications exactly as prescribed: Set a reminder or use a pill organiser to keep track.

Don’t skip follow-up appointments: They’re important for spotting any changes early on.

Ask for help with personal care if needed: Washing, dressing or simply getting up safely can take more energy than expected.

Take mobility seriously: If walking feels unsteady, make use of walking aids or grab rails.

Make your home feel safe and calm: Clear trip hazards, keep frequently used items within easy reach, and make sure the space is restful.

Be kind to yourself: Healing doesn’t follow a set timeline. Rest is just as important as any medicine.
