The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential We educate parents in the treatment, physical and social wellness of special needs and well children
(371)

Historically, children diagnosed with developmental delay, cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, learning problems, dyslexia, and a host of other symptomatic diagnoses have been considered hopeless. Thousands of parents have come to The Institutes to learn how to help their children at home. Those parents have proven beyond any doubt that brain-injured children are not hopeless, but instead have tremendous potential. The Institutes exists to insure that all brain-injured children have a fighting chance to be well. The objective of The Institutes is to take brain-injured children, however severely hurt, and help them to achieve normality physically, intellectually, physiologically, and socially. The majority of children achieve one of these goals, and many children achieve two of these goals. Some children achieve all of these goals, and some children achieve none of these goals. The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential serves children from all over the world. The international headquarters is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Qualified branches of The Institutes are the European Institute in Fauglia, Italy, and The Doman Kenkyusho in Tokyo and Kobe, Japan. The Institutes have offices in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and Madrid Spain. The Institutes presents courses for parents in Philadelphia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, Russia, and Australia.

A Military Tribute at Arlington to Our Founder

Tribute to Glenn Doman made by Lieutenant General Eifler, Deputy chief of Staff, G1 head of human resources for the United States Army.

What a special day. I first need to recognize, the dignitaries who have joined us today:

From the British embassy representing the British government which recognized Lieutenant Colonel Doman with the Military Cross for his valiant actions.

From Luxembourg which awarded him the Croix de Guerre.

And the United States in recognition of his valor awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and both the Bronze and Silver Star.

We thank you for honoring his heroism today.

You know, the Battle of Bulge has a great history, but for those who went through it, it was hell on Earth. There were many casualties on both sides. There was a huge mass of resistance. But in the end, the Allies prevailed. And it was the last of the German offensive. For the rest of the war that was the big turning point.

And Lieutenant Colonel Doman was there. And I like myself an infantryman, it changed him. But I would tell you, and he would probably tell you; the war changed us for the better.

As part of the greatest generation, it was not just what he did in combat and by answering the nation’s call after Pearl Harbor. But probably even more so, as you all know, as most of you are part of his legacy is what he did when he came home, the lives of the 25,000 families that he personally impacted and the millions of people that he impacted with his books and with the organization that he created with his wife Katie.

That fine work continues today.

That's a great example for all of us, especially our veterans, who are war-scarred, war-torn and gone through hell on Earth to come back, as Eric mentioned, and have the resilience that he displayed to carry on and continue his mission on Earth for humanity. We are all better for it today.

Martin was born after a difficult delivery. He crawled and crept oddly and his walking was delayed. At age 30 months, Martin only had a few words of speech and was diagnosed as developmentally delayed. He began speech and occupational therapy. Seven years passed, when Martin was ten years old, Mother attended the What to Do About Your Brain-Injured Child course and wrote:

“When Martin started school, I noticed more of the differences with other children, not only academically but in motor coordination, too. Since then, he has always been behind other boys his age….I am concerned he may not have a life like other boys. His speech problems prevent him from being understood, and he is left without friends. Academically he might never be at his age level, or study for a career or develop a profession with passion. I’m worried that he would not live a full life, and that he will not achieve his dreams due to his limitations. Mostly I would like my son to be able to live a full, independent, and happy life.’’

At his first appointment he was 11 years old. After two months of program at home Mother notes “I find that he is more agile, with more energy, more coordination, he talks a lot more and has expanded his vocabulary and the complexity of his speech. His reasoning is deeper than I had imagined - not because he did not have it but because he was not able to express it until now. …I am amazed at his thirst for knowledge.”

Update on Martin Martin is now reading at his age level (50 words in 5 seconds)! His handwriting is neater and smaller, and he is choosing more sophisticated vocabulary when he writes. Martin has been fit and healthy. He now enjoys running very much, and his soccer game is improving. He is outgoing and friendly - he can communicate what he knows with everyone he meets.

What To Do About Your Brain-Injured Child
August 11th, 2025

Before the end of the course, our parents learn how to evaluate their child. Parents learn what a real diagnosis needs to be and why the symptomatic label their child was given is not a diagnosis.
Parents then learn how to create an effective home program to significantly improve mobility, intellectual growth, social growth, and health. It is a comprehensive program that parents can do at home.

Sara was diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy shortly after her birth.
In the first two years of her life, she had difficulty sitting and could not move. Parents were told by specialists she would never improve.

Mother writes “We felt deep down in our hearts that we could do something for our daughter”.

When Sara was 10 years old, her parents attended the What to Do About Your Brain-injured Child course and said, “We understood that in the near future Sara’s life could be much better.” At age 12, Sara had her first appointment at The Institutes and shortly after she began crawling for the first time in her life. At 14, Sara began walking independently under an overhead ladder without help from anyone for the first time in her life.

Sara has since graduated from high school with excellent grades. She is a speed reader in four languages, at a university level. She is a poet, and an exceptional artist.

Update:

Sara has been in perfect health for 9 years. She can walk independently at home and is now swimming successfully. She has joined a local band and performs with them as the drummer. She is a great events planner; she organizes monthly concerts of her band and recently organized an event for a local charity. She has applied for a position in the library as she continues to be an avid reader.

Sara continues to paint, one of her paintings was featured in an artist’s magazine, selected among many competitors. She presented her sixth art exhibition last November in Tuscany near Florence. Her paintings are popular and to sell well. Sara is considering taking over for her fine arts instructor upon his retirement. Sara has many interests and is always finding new opportunities - she is unstoppable!

Sara comments: “The best thing about The Institutes program is seeing significant changes in my mobility and achieving important results in my social and intellectual life.”

As an infant, Heather struggled with feeding and was an irritable baby. At 5 months, she had her first seizure and was diagnosed with infantile spasms and Dandy Walker Syndrome. She was started on medication.

Heather’s overall development was delayed. At 16 months, her Mother attended the What to Do About Your Brain-Injured Child course. Heather had poor vision and hearing; she did not respond to her name. She was unable to move, and she could not use her hands. She continued to have seizures despite being on anti-convulsant medication.

Heather was almost three years old at her first appointment, 6 months later she was seeing and hearing. She was even enjoying reading homemade books and saying her first words. She had begun to crawl. She even admired herself in the mirror. At that time, she had not had a seizure for one year, after having 20 to 30 seizures a day.

Today, Heather is almost four years old. She is working now towards creeping. She is understanding above her age level. She is reading independently with content from the encyclopedia, and she is enjoying math.

Heather has a big family supporting her every step of the way - looking forward to much more to come!

Sometimes the very first question our parents ask is what makes us different?

There are so many ways to answer this question that it sometimes stops us in our tracks.
What does make us different? Our courses are different; everyone says so and they are correct but why are they different?

We have been in the trenches nose-to-nose with children who ranged from comatose - on the edge of life and death, children who are blind and deaf and paralyzed, children who are hyperactive and disorganized, children whose development is slow, children with speech problems, behavior problems, reading problems, and learning problems. Babies who were premature and at risk, children with seizures, genetic problems, failure-to-thrive children, children who are sick more days than they are well. These are our children, and we have been fighting for them and helping them to get better every day for almost 70 years.

Mom had a healthy pregnancy and uncomplicated labor and delivery, however, 36 hours after Judah’s birth he was in distress with a severe onset of hypoglycemia which led to multiple cardiac arrests requiring resuscitation.

He was diagnosed with severe hypoxic ischemic brain injury. He was treated with numerous rounds of antibiotics before being discharged a month later.
As Judah struggled developmentally, his chiropractor recommended the book “What to Do About Your Brain-Injured Child”.

Judah was six months old when his parents attended the What to Do About Your Brain-Injured Child course. By then, he had been diagnosed as cortically blind, deaf, and insensate. He was unable to move or use his hands.

Following the course, Judah’s parents and his brothers and sister began a sensory stimulation program with the maximum opportunity to move. Mother enhanced her own diet for Judah’s breastfeeding.

At age 17 months, Judah had his first appointment at The Institutes. His evaluation showed he was no longer blind, deaf, insensate or unable to move. He was able to see and smile back at his family members. He was hearing all the sounds in the household and beginning to understand his name and other familiar words. He had become ticklish and had developed a good range of motion in his arms and legs. He was using his hands to grab everything around him.

Judah is on his way, his family is enthusiastic about his future now, and so are we!
