Tackling Laundry Odors: My Approach to Biofilm
When I catch a whiff of that familiar musty scent coming from my laundry, I know it’s time to take action. It’s a reminder that my washing machine needs some TLC to combat the pesky biofilm lurking in those hard-to-reach areas.
Why Conventional Cleaning Products Fall Short
Like many, I’ve tried the usual methods: running a drum clean cycle, adding vinegar, or tossing in cleaning tablets. But time and again, I find that these solutions only scratch the surface. They might mask the smell temporarily, but they don’t address the root cause—biofilm.
Biofilm forms in hidden spots like the folds of the rubber door seal, outer drum, and drain hoses. It’s a sticky layer of bacteria, mold, and yeast that thrives in the damp environment of a washing machine. Traditional cleaners simply can’t pe*****te this protective barrier, leaving the odor to return.
My Go-To Solution: Enzymatic Cleaning with Young Living Products
When I remember to clean my washing machine, I reach for Young Living’s Thieves cleaner, along with their Fruit and Veggie Wash and a few drops of Digize. This combination has been a game-changer for me.
1. Thieves Cleaner: I love its natural antibacterial properties. It not only tackles surface bacteria but also helps break down the biofilm that’s causing the funk.
2. Fruit and Veggie Wash: This adds an extra layer of cleaning power, lifting residues and contaminants that can linger in my machine.
3. Digize*: Just a few drops work wonders on the complex carbohydrates and proteins that make up the biofilm, breaking it down effectively.
How I Use This Approach
Whenever I notice that musty smell, I take a moment to prepare for a deep clean:
- Preparation**: I start with an empty washing machine.
- Cycle Setup**: I add the 20ml of Thieves cleaner, a splash of Fruit and Veggie Wash, and a few drops of Digize.
- Wash Cycle: Running the machine on a warm setting, around 40-60°C, allows the enzymes to do their magic.
- Post-Cleaning Care: After the wash, I make sure to leave the door open. This simple step helps prevent condensation buildup, which can lead to more biofilm.”
