Kevin Kararwa Leukaemia Trust We create awareness, educate, engage and offer support to those suffering from leukaemia and other blood cancers.

“Anyone can be a hero”

Since being established in 2015, KKLT has sought to engage with BAME (black & minority ethnic communities to raise awareness of Leukaemia, educate and inform the community about Stem Cell Donation (commonly known as bone marrow donation), and encourage individuals to join the stem cell registry. Our aim is to increase the number of potential stem cell donors in the registry thus increasing BME community’s survival rates. We have done this through delivering presentations, distributing information leaflets, use of social media, organising events, seeking speaking opportunities in various BAME community gatherings, and partnering with places of worship to talk and holding registration drives. More recently we have started to expand our services to include the distribution of food parcels and provide emotional and physical support to people with blood cancers and their families, thus reducing their isolation/loneliness and increasing their emotional and mental well-being.

A new therapy, obe-cel, is transforming options for adults with relapsed B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

This ‘living medicine’ uses a patient’s own re-engineered immune cells and has shown impressive results:

🔹 77% remission
🔹 50% cancer-free at 3.5 years
🔹 Fewer severe side effects
🔹 UK-developed and arriving in NHS centres within weeks

For many, it brings precious extra time. For some, real hope. A powerful step forward in personalised cancer care.

Leukaemia treatment has transformed dramatically in the last decade and today, many patients are living longer, fuller lives thanks to powerful medical breakthroughs.

1- Targeted Therapy.
Precision medicines like TKIs attack the exact mutations driving certain leukaemia, especially CML. This has turned once fatal diagnoses into long-term manageable conditions.

2- Immunotherapy.
CAR-T cells, monoclonal antibodies, and checkpoint inhibitors help the immune system find and destroy cancer cells more effectively than ever before.

3- Smarter Chemotherapy.
New combinations and personalised dosing mean better results with fewer side effects.

4- Stem Cell Transplants.
Improved donor matching, reduced-intensity conditioning, and safer techniques allow more adults including older patients to qualify and thrive.

5- MRD Monitoring & Genomics.
Highly sensitive tests can detect even tiny traces of cancer, guiding personalised treatment and catching relapse early.

The result?
More options, better outcomes, and renewed hope for thousands of patients and families.

🚨 Help us find a lifesaving stem cell match for Millie — please share 🚨

Just five days after celebrating her 13th birthday, Millie was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with aplastic anaemia, a rare and life-threatening blood disorder.
Her only hope is a stem cell transplant, but sadly no one in her family is a match.

Millie’s mum is now turning to the community for help. She shared:

“If we can’t find a donor, I don’t know what we’ll do. We’re constantly waiting and hoping — it’s an overwhelming amount of stress for the whole family.
Millie is such a gentle, quiet girl. She loves the beach, shopping trips, spending time with friends, and she adores her baby niece, Phoebe. She’s been unbelievably brave through everything.
Instead of starting her teenage years, she has to isolate at home because she’s so vulnerable to infection. She can’t see her friends, and she gets so lonely.
That’s why I want people to know they can register as donors. It’s something positive we can do — it gives me a little hope and control in all of this.”

✨ You could be the match that gives Millie a second chance at life.

If you’re aged 17–55, please register as a stem cell donor today:

Every registration, every share, and every comment helps raise awareness and could lead to the match Millie urgently needs

On International Men’s Day, we’re raising awareness of an important but often overlooked reality:

🔹 Men are more likely to develop certain types of leukaemia
🔹 Men are less likely to seek help early

Why are men at higher risk?
• Biological differences linked to several leukaemia types
• Higher exposure to chemicals, radiation, and smoking
• Delayed check-ups and health reporting
• Immune system differences still being studied

Common symptoms men ignore:
Fatigue, infections, weight loss, bruising, night sweats, bone or joint pain.

Let’s look out for the men we love. 💙🟠
