Lost in the lap of nature.

A pause from the routine isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. Taking time to step away, reset, and reconnect often brings clarity that constant motion cannot.

Currently unwinding at Jim Corbett National Park—where the silence speaks, and nature does the healing.

Why Keeping Records Matters

During MBBS, we were required to submit case records of patients we saw in the wards.
Later, during MS and MCh, we had to maintain logbooks documenting surgeries and clinical exposure.

At that time, it often felt like a routine academic requirement — something to complete and submit.

But in 2018, I received a piece of advice that changed the way I look at record-keeping.
S. Kale, former Head of Neurosurgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi, told me something very simple:

“Maintain a logbook and analyse it. It will tell you what is happening in your professional journey.”

Those words stayed with me.

Since then, I started keeping records more consciously — not just of patients and surgeries, but also of my running journey.

And slowly I realized something powerful.

Records are not just numbers on paper.
They are snapshots of discipline, effort, and growth.

A logbook quietly tells stories:
• of the first difficult surgery,
• of the long learning curves,
• of the mistakes that taught the most,
• and of the small improvements that add up over time.

The same applies to running.

Every kilometre logged, every timing recorded, every run documented — it becomes a personal dialogue.

Not with the world.

But with yourself.

Because at the end of the day, the real competition is not with anyone else.

It is Me vs Me.

How can I become a little better than yesterday?
A little stronger, a little wiser, a little more disciplined.

Records do something remarkable.

They remind us where we started, how far we have come, and how much further we can go.

And when you look back after years, those simple entries in a logbook quietly reveal the story of a journey —
a journey of becoming better.
