Social Care Network update for y'all...

This week at Truth Pharm (and we still have tomorrow in the office) we have assisted a lot of folks.

By alot I mean we have sent over 80 cases to Care Compass.

In other words...

We sent referrals for 29 services, mostly for food vouchers or boxes.

I created 48 cases for community members which included rental assistance and home goods.

We screened community members for services and checked in on open cases with community members. Speaking to a community member about their new apartment and home furnishings, hearing joy and hope.

We sent rental assistance, security and ordered home furnishings for a community member transitioning into housing. This person is in recovery. I remember when my own mom would pick up a new sponsee from rehab, scraping together things for them to restart their life. Today I got to help someone choose the color of their new bed frame, curtains, plates everything....

We worked with another community member to find an apartment, schedule the time to view it, secure rental assistance, security and home furnishings for them as they transition from being unhoused into their own apartment. ,

Talked to 5 people referred from 1 landlord that noted his tenants are behind and hoping to connect them to resources.

That is only the Social Care Network.

We still hosted our Potluck last night and offered Overdose Recognition and Respone training today, training 6 more community members to respond to an opioid overdose.

Its busy work, it's time consuming, but I can't begin to explain how much it warms my heart.

See y'all tomorrow!! -Kathy

Later yesterday (1/14) we learned that the decision to cancel $2 billion in funding for mental health and behavioral health services that was announced (1/13 2pm) was reversed.

While we’re grateful, we feel an unease. We suspect now rather than using an axe, they’ll use a dagger to carve out what they don’t want to fund.

We are also livid that it would seem appropriate to a government body to inflict trauma, on a trauma affected community. People literally lost their jobs as of 1/13. Sure they get them back, but how many of those people were in recovery and at risk of relapse with such sudden and stunning news?

This is not fair or appropriate governance. No one can think this is sound.

Many of the affected grant programs had bipartisan support and President Donald Trump has supported them in the past.
