Listen to nature | listen to yourself
We collect information from our environment and we creat patterns of functioning based on our interpretation of that information.
——
We collect and save everything through our body and senses, but that is just raw data that we have to group into meaningful, cognitive, logical guidelines so that we can successfully function in our society. That happens with the help of our emotions, where we attach a meaning to what every word, action and thought that we have.
——
Most of our build reality is made in our childhood even before we become self-aware and that perception of our reality is strongly influenced by the people around us at the time. Those influences from our surroundings never stop and they keep pushing us in a certain direction.
——
Although we become aware of ourselves at around 5 years of age, we can only become “truly” aware of ourselves later in life when we start understanding our own patterns of behaviour and being. We start to understand our personalities, traits, connections, values. But by that time those patterns are strongly rooted in us and they are hard to change.
——
Still change is possible and listening and exposing oneself to new experiences, ides, concepts and people we can build new healthy habits and patterns.
——-
I’m noticing that going back to nature and the body is where we can learn the most about ourselves. Going deep into the rabbit hole of actively observing senses, feelings and thoughts in different contexts. That is how we influence our perception and behaviour in a meaningful way.

Problem solving
I have spent years training classic fitness programs where strength and gaining size was the main goal of every training session. Back than I always had motivation for those types of training, but after a while it just got kind of boring. So to spice things up I added some handstand training. It was something completely different to what i was used to.
Where previously i could measure my progress with number like reps, sets and weight, now all i had was my own feeling of success. Some days were great where I could do a HS for couple of seconds just so the next day I couldn’t even kick up properly. It took me years to truly say i can confidently hold as HS. It was an interesting process especially because i was alone without help for the first couple of years. All i did was mostly learn on try and error. It was the hardest movement “problem” I managed to achieve that set of a different look on how I train now.
————
From HS I’ve learned that it is the challenge of solving something unknown is what keeps bringing me back to training. That feeling of a light bulp that aha moment, you can sense with your body where muscles and joints work perfectly together and that release of dopamin hitting the brain is just a perfect present moment happiness cocktail. Those are really nice but don’t come as often as one would like, especially if you are a hard driven goal achieving person.
—————
It was years of failing at a movement skill that showed me what kind of person i am and what behaviour patterns i have. I got a look in to how I deal with failure, what drives my motivation, what it means to listen to my body, how to calm down or to hype up and how to regulate my expectations. It was a process of learning how to enjoy the process. Which is something most of us really struggle with in our daily lives.

Own- to belong to / to possess / acknowledge full responsibility

As living beings we all belong to a certain environment that moulded us into what we are today, with all our behaviours, thoughts, feelings and relationships. (Based upon all those traits) We all possess different strategies and patterns in how effective we are in regulating balance between us( the internal environment) and the outside world ( the external environment... nature, people,). The bigger miscommunication between these two worlds the more resistance, pain and trauma we have.
So if we want to increase our well-being we firstly have to own our behaviour and habits and than we have to know why we act a certain way, because only than can we go about changing things.

Flow- produced effortlessly/ undergo a permanent change of shape under stress, without melting

The world has it’s own flow and we can not change that, but we sure can influence it by setting a direction of our own flow within the universal flow.
For the change to happen, we have to be able to withstand certain amount of pressure and stress from the outside world. We have to be resilient in setting boundaries so that we aren’t pulled in to the uncontrollable stream of life where we have no control or influence on what happens to us.
When we know ourselves and the world, when we build strength and flexibility only than can we produce effortless change for our wellbeing and for the wellbeing of our environment.

Own flow where you build skills for better observation and adaptation with direction

Communication
We humans think we are the best at communication. We can talk for hours where we can describe anything in detail, thinking that when we finish that description it will perfectly match up our perceptions about a subject. We developed this big brain which we think is the holy grail of communication. I mean how can we not think that when we sit on the top of the food chain and we are now the “masters” of this planet.
————-
The ability to verbally describe things gave us this illusion of super power where we think we know how things are and should be, but we forget that communication does not happen on the cognitive level only!
————
This world is a multi directional , multi layered complex system of interactions where feelings, thoughts, sensations and behaviour in isolation can not tell us the whole picture.
————
So if we really want to be better at communication we have to let go of our rigid system of thought and beliefs, we have to start sensing and feeling more. We even have to be actively aware that our behaviour is sort of predetermined by our patterns and upbringing, meaning most of the time we have no influence on how we communicate.
————
I’m not saying I am an expert on communication because I’m not, but i do see a lot of benefits in....
-building awareness of the body though movement and with it a non verbal communication with myself and others
-understanding that everyone has there own reality and values by having friends from all type of life
-accepting that we alone are not responsible for every action we make and that some things can not be changed
-actively being in nature where I build appreciation for this complex universe that is us and everything around us

Winter 2020 was long and hard to manage for most of us. It was dark and gloomy most of the time with not much to do. Well there is always something to do, but watching TV or scrolling does not bring calm and satisfaction at least not in the way i would like to experienced it.
———
I “like” the process of feeling intimidated or even a little bit scared right before i do something. I “like” the feeling of resistance and I’m intrigued by the thought process when I’m doing something difficult or scary. It is not easy to overcome those sensation, but i have done it so many times i know that when it’s done i will be ecstatic and that feeling is worth so much when it comes to my self worth and competency.
——————
This photo was my first climb in 2021 and i was scared sh*tless. It was like I lost all my strength and skills from the previous year. So in that one short low grade climb that i easily managed last year, i now had to go though all those feelings of insecurity again...while .briski took photos.
—————
The climb and the photoshoot was over and even after lots of shaky legs, heavy beats of the heart and scary self doubting thoughts i was left with this feeling and a memory of an experience that felt meaningful and beautiful. It was the first opening chapter for the summer ahead.
————
Well what I want to say is find something challenging for yourself and try to overcome it and see if anything changes in your mood/perception. I’m founding out that the more I go over these personal progressive challenges the easier my mind rests in spite of all the Covid related problems. I know that no matter what i will always find something exciting and fun to do, even if can’t live my flat!

My relationship with food has gone through a lot of stages. From eating nothing but Nutella pancakes, chocolate puddings and French fries as a kid, to eating a lot of McDonalds in the middle of the night as a teenager.
Of course that type of eating habits can leave a lot of consequences on the body and health in general.
————
I was kind of lucky that I only got fat without any serious immune system problems and I guess I build a strong stomach through the years and now i can eat almost anything and I don’t get sick.
—————
Now my habits are completely different , but not only because I wanted to lose weight but because I found out and felt the impact of all these processed foods. The food took away my energy and it impacted my mood a lot. I didn’t know that until I tried to eat different.
—————-
We can not know the impact of something if we don’t have a reference for it. That is why I encourage exploration of thoughts, feelings, habits, movement, pain, relationships and cooking. That way you yourself can decide what works for you.
————-
So how do my eating habits look today?
Most of the time i try to eat non processed vegetarian home cooked food. I always try to eat everything i make and if i eat somewhere else I always try to eat the leftovers. I love it when i eat something new and i still eat Nutella pancakes( just not every day😂). I don’t count calories although i did that at some point in time, now I always try to listen to my body to tell me when, how much and why i eat. I feel good and I don’t stress about food at all and the weight just stays the same.

I don’t know anything about photography, but what i have seen it takes a lot of time and effort to make something look amazing(especially if that smt is me). It takes thousands of shots, constant little adjustments and nerves of steel to produce one or two pictures that you are satisfied with. Even after you done all that you still don’t know how the shoot really went, until you open those pictures on the computer and see that (the model was constantly moving->me) you have even more work to do.
And even than you have to fight you own standards on what you can put out for other people to see.
————
Well that is usually my process when i train...a lot of constant effort for little pleasure that usually comes hours or days later.
————-
Thank you for making me feel like a final boss in a video game and for the lights.

In the past I wasn’t much of a dog or even a cat person. I never connected to an animal, because i was raised up in a mindset that dogs only make a mess and that they are a big responsibility when it come to taking care of them(which is partly true). On top of that I was even bitten by a Shar Pei and that left some scars on my arm and in my mind as well.
—————
It has now been almost two years since dogs came in to my life in a big way. Mile was the first little Dachshund and he was almost living with me for the first year of his life. We slept together, took bike rides and we still cuddle like crazy when ever he comes for a visit. He is really strong headed but at the same time the biggest cuddler ever!
—————-
Than there is Lucy, the black princes with a fierce look. In the beginning i was a little intimidated by her and i still jump when she barks out of nowhere. Now we are best mates, we play and go for adventures when ever i babysit her. She really listens to you with attention and understands what you are saying.
—————-
What i want to say is that dogs can really teach you so much about relationships and behaviour. They can help you in tuff times and they can give you a sense of responsibility and meaning when you are low. I don’t recommend you take any animal, if you don’t have time to take care of them, but i do recommend you build a connection with one. Babysit or help a shelter, it will be an eye opening experience.

There is resource building with strength training and mobility work and then there is skill learning.
————
There was a time when all i did was train my recourses and even those were only strength based.
I felt strong and I could train for hours. But at the same time i was also in pain. Now that i look back i do miss one arm pullups, heavy deadlifts and human flags, but i sure don’t miss the pain.
————-
Today I can’t do those specific strength stuff anymore, but i have build a wide range of other skills. Rolling rope, stick coordinations, floorwork and many more. I might not feel as strong but in exchange i feel more capable and safe in my own body. I don’t feel pain like i used to.
—————
To conclude I think you need to practice both skill and recourse. With one you build physical strength and resistance and with the other you build the same but psychologically.
———-
To conclude we should not divide body and mine nor should we completely separate ourselves from our surroundings/environment.
————-
For me that means i have to start training with other people where we can all share our knowledge and experience.
Hope so see some of you soon preferably somewhere in nature

OWNFLOW
