Emily was only 13 when a single tick bite changed her life.

In the video below, her father Dirk Abel shares the moment she contracted Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE) - an event that turned their family’s world upside down. Their story is honest and deeply personal, and a reminder that TBE doesn’t discriminate. It can affect anyone, at any age.

TBE is a viral infection transmitted by ticks and found in many parts of Europe.

A simple tick bite can cause serious brain inflammation, but do you know the symptoms to look out for?

Most of us spend time outdoors. Many of us have seen ticks.
But very few people know that a tick bite can lead to Tick-Borne Encephalitis, a serious brain infection that is often misunderstood, or not known at all.

That’s why, in the leadup to , we are taking a moment to focus on the symptoms to look out for. Encephalitis International has developed the acronym F.L.A.M.E.S that reflects the urgent neurological signs that the general public and healthcare professionals should be aware of to help recognize encephalitis earlier.

Together with our partner Encephalitis International we are raising awareness and helping more people feel informed and protected.

Flight booked? Check. Sunscreen packed? Check. Spoke to a travel health provider about travel health? ...Wait, what?

We often think about common travel diseases when planning a trip but neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) should not be forgotten.

On World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day, we are talking about the things that often don’t make your packing list but probably should.

Chikungunya is one of more than 21 NTDs that many travelers haven’t even heard of. It is a mosquito-borne disease, and it is spreading. So, whether you are chasing sunsets in the Caribbean, spotting wildlife in Africa, or traveling for business to Southeast Asia, if infected mosquitoes are around, you may be on their radar.

The first step to help protect yourself is knowledge. That is why we unite and act together with the The International Society for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ISNTD) to support World Health Organization (WHO)'s efforts to control and eliminate NTDs.

So, before you zip up that suitcase, add one more item to your checklist: knowledge. It weighs nothing, but it can make all the difference.

Today, we announced the signing of a joint procurement agreement with HERA, the European Commission’s Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority for the supply of up to 2 million doses of monkeypox vaccine during 2023 and 2024.

Bavarian Nordic’s monkeypox vaccine included in TIME’s Best Inventions of 2022 list.

The best recognition you can get is the one, you are not looking for. And certainly, we never imagined ourselves coming into the spotlight of this year’s unexpected global health crisis: monkeypox.

TIME has revealed its annual list of the Best Inventions, which features 200 extraordinary innovations changing our lives and we are immensely proud to announce, that Bavarian Nordic’s monkeypox vaccine has been included in the list.

The vaccine is among the best inventions in the category ‘Medical care’ and is acknowledged for its favorable safety profile and its role in combating the global monkeypox outbreak.

As the world’s only manufacturer of a vaccine against monkeypox, we have done our utmost to ensure availability of the vaccine for risk populations all over the world. 👆Teach your children to always tell you if an animal bites or scratches them

👆If your child has been bitten or scratched by an unfamiliar animal, wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes, and seek medical advice
