You exercise all the time but you don’t look any fitter…
Looking fit isn’t just about burning calories. It’s about building muscle.
Lifting weights = building muscle.
Muscle = shape.
Sculpted arms = muscle.
B***y gains = muscle.
Shoulders that look good in everything = muscle.
What used to work - the diet, the exercise - isn’t working anymore…
Smaller bodies in general need fewer calories to run. So a deficit that used to work, a calorie output exercise program that used to work…will eventually stop working UNLESS you have built more muscle.
Muscle is calorically expensive. The more of it you have, the higher your metabolism. Even at rest. Even as you lose weight/body fat.
You hit a mid-day energy slump that no amount of caffeine can fix…
Remember in 8th grade when we learned about mitochondria? The Powerhouse of the Cells? Well, lifting weights boosts mitochondrial production and function. Plus it improves brain function, daily living and reduces stress…all of which contribute to more all day energy and stamina.
I find that for most busy women, the biggest challenge with getting into weight lifting is that they a) don’t know where to start and/or b) can’t figure out how it’d fit into their already busy schedule.
Can you relate?
