At Phoenix Society, Canada Day was a time of reflection.

We recognize the ongoing impact of colonization, and the systemic inequities Indigenous Peoples continue to face. As a community-rooted organization, we are committed to truth, reconciliation, and building services grounded in cultural humility and social justice.

We are grateful to our team, service recipients, and partners who continue to reflect, learn, and act in ways that foster safety, dignity, and connection for all.

Our journey forward is guided by the values of equity, compassion, and respect. Today, and every day, we honour Indigenous knowledge, leadership, and resilience. We remain dedicated to dismantling barriers, together.

🌈 Pride in Every Program! 🌈

On Friday, we celebrated across Phoenix Society with food, fun, learning, and a whole lot of love! From karaoke and connection at our Surrey locations to Jello rainbows and crafts at The Nest and Abbotsford HUB. Our staff and service recipients came together in a beautiful celebration of inclusion, community, and identity.

Phoenix Society offers trauma-informed, person-centered programs that support everyone, including members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Whether it's housing, substance use care, life skills development, or community outreach, our spaces are built on dignity, diversity, and belonging.

Because at Phoenix, PRIDE isn’t just a party: it’s part of our purpose.

A huge thank you to everyone who showed up and showed out at Surrey Fest this past weekend, especially our incredible Red Shirt volunteers!

For over two decades, our Red Shirt volunteers have been a dynamic part of Phoenix Society’s mission. Using their lived and living experience to connect, give back, and grow. Their participation is more than community engagement, it’s a key piece of our wraparound, person-centered model of care.

At Phoenix, we believe in supporting the whole person: from housing and health to purpose and belonging. Volunteering is a powerful tool in this journey. It fosters confidence, builds life skills, and creates a sense of connection.

Our service recipients were incredible ambassadors this weekend. They represented Phoenix with pride, enthusiasm, and authenticity.

A big THANK-YOU to the Surrey BIA for creating such a welcoming, inclusive space for all to gather and celebrate. We’re excited to continue our partnership at upcoming events in the community.

The Red Shirts are more than a team: they’re a movement rooted in dignity, growth, and community impact.

Today on , we come together to honour and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Turtle Island.

At Phoenix Society, staff and residents gathered in ceremony and reflection. Together, we learned and sang a traditional heritage song; a powerful reminder of the strength and beauty of Indigenous knowledge and community.

Smudging took place next to the Healing Grounds, offering a meaningful space for residents and staff to partake in personal cleansing and reflection. helps clear the mind, body, and spirit.

While the Healing Grounds themselves were not used for the gathering, they remain a symbol of our ongoing commitment to culturally safe, healing-centred spaces within our organization.

Our work takes place on the shared, unceded, occupied and traditional territories of the Semiahmoo, Katzie, Kwikwetlem, Kwantlen, Sumas, Matsqui and Qayqayt First Nations and the treaty lands of the Tsawwassen First Nation. We respectfully acknowledge their stewardship of this land since time immemorial and thank them for allowing us to work, live and play in these territories.

Recognizing Men's Mental Health Month

In , nearly 1 in 2 men are at risk of social isolation—yet two-thirds never seek help.

Too many are suffering in silence, facing stigma, trauma, substance use challenges, and housing instability without support.
At Phoenix Society, we believe no man should have to heal alone.

We walk alongside men and male-identifying individuals at every stage of recovery, offering dignity, connection, and pathways to stability.
Phoenix offers trauma-informed, gender-responsive services that support individuals across a continuum of care. Our programs include substance use treatment for male-identifying youth, young adults, and adults; recovery-based transitional housing; supportive housing; and low-barrier harm reduction and service navigation.

This Men’s Mental Health Month, we honour the courage it takes to ask for help.

Healing is possible and it doesn’t have to happen in isolation.

We’re here. Every step of the way.

May 21 is and at Phoenix Society, we believe that cultural diversity strengthens our community and is vital to healing, growth, and connection.

The Phoenix Main Campus benefits from the Healing Grounds, a culturally grounded space for land-based healing and wellness. Stewarded by Elders, the space offers Sweat Lodge ceremonies, traditional Indigenous healing practices, and community gatherings. Onsite Indigenous Cultural Liaisons plays a key role in facilitating cultural programming, informing individualized case planning, and linking individuals to culturally specific supports in the community.

Our commitment to inclusion is reflected in the diverse backgrounds of our staff, participants, and the culturally responsive programs we provide. We honour the unique lived experiences and identities that shape each person’s journey.

On Cultural Diversity Day, we celebrate the many cultures that enrich our community and recommit to creating spaces where everyone feels respected, heard, and valued.

🌈 Today, May 17 on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia, we at Phoenix Society reaffirm our belief in a world where everyone belongs, regardless of s*xual orientation, gender identity, or expression.

On this important day, we stand in solidarity with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and reaffirm our commitment to challenging stigma, dismantling barriers, and creating safe, inclusive environments for all.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion means we actively work to reflect the diversity of our community in every part of our organization; the people we hire, individuals we serve, and partnerships we build.

We recognize that homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia are systemic issues deeply rooted in oppression. That’s why Phoenix Society intentionally designs programs that address barriers to access (including those based on gender identity and s*xual orientation) and we are proud to offer employment and services that welcome people of all backgrounds.

Today and every day, we celebrate people’s lived experiences and identities. We remain dedicated to being a place where all voices are heard and where everyone has a chance to thrive.

Happy - "The Power of Nurses to Transform Health. Phoenix recognizes and celebrates the compassion, dedication, and expertise of nurses everywhere. Nurses are a lifeline in healthcare systems, making a difference in the lives of individuals, families, and entire communities.

At Phoenix Society, our nurses are essential members of our multidisciplinary care teams. Working across our programs and sites, including our medical clinic, transitional housing, substance-use treatment programs, and harm reduction services, they bring compassion, clinical excellence, and trauma-informed care to people navigating complex health, substance-use, and mental health challenges.

They support:

- Individuals experiencing or recovering from substance use
- People living with HIV, HCV, or other STBBIs
- Youth and young adults in live-in recovery programs
- Formerly incarcerated individuals, including aging adults with complex medical needs
- People who are unhoused or recently transitioned to supportive housing

Our nurses provide 24/7 care, medication management, health assessments, education, and emotional support. They are meeting people where they are, free from judgment, and with deep respect for each person’s unique journey.

💛 To all nurses in every setting: thank you for your relentless dedication, heart, and service. And to our Phoenix Society nurses: your work transforms lives. You make healing possible.

Happy Mother’s Day from Phoenix Society

Today, we honour the strength, love, and resilience of mothers and mother figures in all their forms. Whether you're a birth mom, chosen family, solo parent, or someone who shows up with a mother’s heart, this day is for you. We also hold space for those facing grief, estrangement, or complex emotions. Your journey matters, and you are not alone.

At Phoenix Society, we are proud to walk alongside mothers navigating recovery, healing, and the complex realities of housing insecurity, trauma, and gender-based violence. Our programs are built through a gender-responsive, intersectional lens, recognizing that many women, especially mothers fleeing domestic violence, face compounded barriers like lack of safe housing, childcare responsibilities, and rental challenges that can force them back into unsafe situations.

Our Phoenix Adult Treatment Program in Surrey offers trauma-informed, live-in treatment with individual, group, and family counselling, as well as holistic supports like music and recreational therapy, all designed to support women in reconnecting with themselves and their families if they so choose. In Abbotsford, the Community Hub Centre (ACHC) provides low-barrier, wraparound services including health care, harm reduction, HIV outreach, and substance use support in a safe, stigma-free space where mothers can access compassionate, woman-centered care. And through The Nest, our supportive housing in Surrey, we offer 40 studio units (16 dedicated to recovery housing)providing mothers with stability, independence, and ongoing care so they can reach their authentic selves.

On this Mother’s Day, we recognize the courage it takes to reach out, rebuild, and reclaim safety. To every mother in our programs, and to all those navigating motherhood with strength and resilience. You are seen, valued, and celebrated

Today is Child and Youth Mental Health Day in BC.

Let’s take this moment to recognize the importance of showing young people that we care, because connection is protection.

At Phoenix Society, we are committed to supporting youth and young adults on their journey toward mental wellness. Our Specialized Substance Use Treatment Program, located at our Main Campus in Surrey, BC, offers a 3-month live-in program (with the possibility to extend to 6 months) for male-identifying, nonbinary, and two-spirited individuals aged 17–24. This program includes individual, group, and family therapy, as well as opportunities to build community through recreational, volunteerism, and music therapy .

We provide a safe and inclusive environment where service recipients can focus on their goals. Our multidisciplinary team (including addictions physicians, psychiatry professionals, primary care doctors, nurses, counselors, and therapists) works collaboratively to support each individual's recovery journey. Additional services such as Opioid Agonist Therapy, an onsite pharmacy, and aftercare planning ensure comprehensive care . We aim to empower youth and young adults to achieve their full potential.

On May 7, we stand alongside the campaign to say:

-I care about your feelings.
- I care about your mental health.
- I care about YOU.

Together, we can help young people feel less alone and more connected to the support they need.

Phoenix Society

Phoenix was established to initially support people with drug and alcohol addictions on their recovery journey transformation. In that process, the Society’s founders, Michael and Ann Wilson, saw that people flourish when conditions exist to meet their needs, hopes and dreams and that this happens in a community transformation providing reciprocal support and contributions.

Since 1989 the Society has grown from an idea, to its first recovery house, then additional recovery houses, and now is a multi-faceted service provider that helps people achieve remarkable success in their lives. Phoenix has helped over 30,000 people address their addiction and related issues.
