When people ask me what I hope to achieve with my podcast, I sum it up in one sentence: “To help people live a full, optimistic, vibrant, happy life—reducing suffering and developing resilience so they can say, unequivocally, ‘I’m here.’

I’ve spent 33 years hosting my nationally syndicated public radio show, Zorba Paster On Your Health, and it’s been an incredible journey sparking thoughtful, engaging conversations about health and wellness—without the clutter, chatter, or noise. With more than 45 years as a family physician, my experience as one of the lead physicians caring for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, my ongoing work mentoring medical students and residents at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and my humanitarian medical work with Tibetan refugees, I’ve gained a unique perspective on modern health care. I strive to blend the science of Western medicine with the balance of holistic, integrative approaches to healing.

Yesterday was a splendid 55 degrees - a splendid e-bike day for sure. Since I tossed my ‘traditional’ bike for an e-bike I have clocked more miles than I ever did. Electrons make those hills a ‘piece of cake,’. Great way to have fun moving those aching joints while enjoying the scenery.

For more than a decade weve been working to rid Tibetans, kids, monks and nuns of TB. We’re now launching the project in Nepal. This is Dr. Kunchok, of Johns Hopkins with some of the kids. We’ve dropped the prevalence of TB in the schools, monasteries and nunneries by 87%. Amazing progress. I’ll post updates on this from time to time.

Hi. Here I am at picnic point with my mom. I’m 19 years old. I spray painted this jacket because it had an insignia that I didn’t like. She’s in high heels.

I look like a different person to me. I’ve got all this hair and no mustache. I was so happy that day / I was going to the UW and I loved it. I wanted to share the joy with them. It was a beautiful day. I remember that really well.

Photos are so Emotive. They often bring back such wonderful memories.

Graduation day at the UW with my mom. My dad placed this photo into a plastic shell that he made himself and then placed a penny in it for Good Luck. It worked. I’ve had great luck in my life.

On my way home from a fun ski trip at S’Boat with my guy friend. I don’t ski all the runs I used to, that’s for sure, but I do love sliding down the hill with those boards attached to my feet.

Rabbit Ears peak. You can barely see it - it’s a the tippy top of the peak between these trees. A beautiful Steamboat day yesterday - hiked for 5 miles through wonderful fluffy snow. Today is our last ski day. Not a lots snow but enough for my 78 year old body to enjoy.

The other day I was at the Madison Children’s museum and saw this. He was one of my favorite poets when I was a young 20 year old looking for love.
