"TB can be cured, but ridding the body of the bug often takes many months and usually requires taking four or more different medicines. In this Spotlight special briefing, we zoom in on what makes the TB bacterium so hard to beat." Find out why we are so close, yet so far from eradicating TB.

TB can be cured, but ridding the body of the bug often takes many months and usually requires taking four or more different medicines. In this Spotlight special briefing, Elri Voigt zooms in on what makes the TB bacterium so hard to beat.

The WHO 2025 policy brief on integrated and lung health calls for a syndromic, people-centred approach that reflects the overlapping epidemiology and clinical presentation of respiratory conditions. In response, WHO has issued a call for case studies and best practices: Implementing an integrated approach to and lung health.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Global Programme on Tuberculosis & Lung Health is seeking examples of case studies and promising practices that illustrate how integrated approaches to tuberculosis (TB) and lung health have been applied in different country contexts. The call aims to capture effo...

History has shown that vulnerable persons have been taken advantage of in the name of science. However, this has resulted in almost excluding such people from important research. Should incarcerated persons be included in TB vaccine trials, as this is a group that can benefit from a long-awaited effective TB vaccine?

People deprived of liberty are among the populations experiencing the highest rates of tuberculosis. Prisons typically create ideal conditions for Mycobacterium tuberculosis transmission, including overcrowding and prolonged exposure in poorly ventilated environments, and often have populations at h...

Dr. Erlina Burhan, a 62-year-old pulmonologist from Indonesia, is on a mission to help eliminate tuberculosis—still the world’s deadliest infectious disease, claiming 1.25 million lives in 2023 alone.

From treating patients to sharing knowledge on Twitter and TikTok, Dr. Burhan is combining science and social media to raise awareness and improve care. Her recent research shows promise: a bedaquiline-linezolid regimen could be as effective as standard treatments, offering hope in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

Inspiring proof that the battle against TB is far from over—and neither is the power of dedication.
