The End of "Trial and Error"

We’ve all seen patients struggle through the "trial and error" phase of finding the right medication. But what if their DNA could give us the answer first?
🧬 Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is shifting the paradigm from "one size fits all" to personalized precision. From mental health meds to blood thinners, testing can predict who will respond—and who might suffer an adverse reaction.
Read how this technology is becoming a standard part of medication selection.

"Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman."

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His words remind us that the work of equality is not limited to courtrooms or voting booths—it extends to our clinics, our counters, and our communities.

For 50 years, U.S. Pharmacist has supported the pharmacy profession as you care for patients from all walks of life. Today, we reflect on the vital role pharmacists play in bridging gaps in care, addressing health disparities, and ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to everyone.

To cap or not to cap? When treating GI cancers in patients with obesity, the "fear of toxicity" often leads to dose reductions. But is this practice hurting survival rates?

A new review in U.S. Pharmacist examines the altered pharmacokinetics in obesity—from changes in CYP enzyme activity to volume of distribution (Vd) differences between lipophilic and hydrophilic agents.

Key Takeaway: Despite the physiological changes, ASCO guidelines continue to recommend full weight-based dosing for most cytotoxic agents. The data suggests that underdosing may be a greater risk to patient outcomes than the potential for toxicity.

Hepatitis B Vaccine 💉

Hepatitis B vaccination is drawing renewed attention after a CDC advisory panel on Friday voted to no longer recommend the shot for all newborns. The call has drawn strong reaction from medical groups, who – citing recent shifts in the panel – are urging doctors and parents to rely on alternative guidance grounded in longstanding evidence. The decision isn't just about newborns – it raises broader questions about protection across all ages and why adult immunity still matters for public health. https://wb.md/4908XmE

- Acoltremon (Tryptyr): A first-in-class treatment for Dry Eye Disease (DED), offering a new mechanism of action for millions of patients struggling with this common condition.
