Thank you so much to the YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula Donor Advised Fund at Philanthropic Ventures Foundation for the grant funding to continue supporting our AACI Asian Women's Home. In FY2025, AWH provided over 6,000 bednights of safe shelter to survivors and their children, thanks in part to this generous funding. Thank you to the Foundation for your role in empowering survivors while they seek safety and healing after experiencing abuse and exploitation!

AACI Asian Women’s Home serves survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. Help is available in multiple languages and dialects, both Asian and non-Asian. AWH serves everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, socioeconomic background, or sexual orientation. All are welcome! In the face of ever-increasing community need, the support from YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula Donor Advised Fund at Philanthropic Ventures Foundation is greatly appreciated. 💜

Congratulations to Smitha J., an Adult & Older Adult (AOA) Behavioral Health Counselor, on being named employee of the month! 🎉 Here’s what fellow AACI staff had to say about her: 💬 “Smitha is always willing to help a fellow clinician with kindness in her heart and the spirit of teamwork on her mind. Countless times, she is one of the first to volunteer to help with small and large tasks that help the workday go by smoothly... She is always willing to help with coverage of clients, many of whom would feel lost without a clinician during a short or long absence. Clients come back saying how empathic and nurturing Smitha was in her care.” Thank you, Smitha, for your outstanding efforts in the workplace and all that you do for our community! 👏

Smitha is one of our many Behavioral Health counselors on the AACI team. As an AOA counselor, she works with the diverse adult and older adult population of Santa Clara County, who often face tremendous social, cultural, and emotional pressures. The Adult and Older Adult Counseling Program can provide a range of mental health services – including case management, medication support with on-site psychiatrists and registered nurses, neuropsychological assessment, and rehabilitation counseling to promote the optimal functioning of the individual at home and in the community.

🚨As January reaches the end zone, it's important we continue to recognize National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, to prevent human trafficking in our communities.

🌉Yes. Right here in the Bay Area, human trafficking is taking place in plain view, in many different settings and across various industries in our communities, every day. Experts say that learning how human trafficking happens in our communities can help to prevent it.

🏈💸Although large sporting events themselves do not cause trafficking, economic factors can increase exploitation during events like the Super Bowl or the World Cup so it's a good idea to stay alert and know who to call for support.

If you or someone you know is a victim of human trafficking, contact the hotline at 1-888-373-7888 for support services that can help you or someone you know, stay safe.📲

If you believe you may have information about a trafficking situation, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline toll-free hotline at 1-888-373-7888. Anti-Trafficking Hotline Advocates are available 24/7 to take reports of potential human trafficking. You can text the Hotline at 233733, or chat with the Hotline via www.humantraffickinghotline.org/chat. https://safety4thebay.org/ has a list of local agencies and people you can talk with here in the Bay Aea.🫶🏼

For much of her life, Li Zhi has put others first. She worked tirelessly as a caregiver as her job and for her family. Her nonstop caregiving left her with little time to care for herself, and she became overwhelmed with stress.

After moving to the U.S., Li Zhi and her husband began visiting AACI Health Center and AACI Senior Wellness Program (SWP) services. As retirees with no income, Li Zhi and her husband have come to depend on the free hot, nutritious meals provided to seniors throughout the week. 🍱

Over braised tofu and hot tea and surrounded by staff and seniors who spoke her language, Li Zhi opened up about how she had been feeling over the last few years. She was met with compassion from her newfound community, specifically recalling that Eunice, the Program Manager, knew the family’s situation and supported them however she could.

💬 “She continued to take care of me by checking in and asking if I was doing well. She always made me feel hopeful and like someone cared. No matter what issue I face, I felt hopeful because the SWP team was helpful.”

On one occasion, Eunice arranged an appointment between Li Zhi and a healthcare Counselor to help enroll her in Medi-Cal. Once approved, Li Zhi's coverage took care of all her outstanding bills, clearing thousands of dollars in old medical expenses and removing a major financial strain from her family.

Today, Li Zhi’s life looks completely different. From isolation and self-sacrifice to friendship and renewed purpose, AACI helped her rediscover joy and belonging—proving that no one should have to face life’s challenges alone. ❤️
