MORINGA THE MIRACLE HEALING TREE
This plant is overflowing with #vitamins A, B, C, D, E and minerals including potassium, calcium, iron, selenium, and magnesium. #Moringa leaves are rich in essential amino acids which are not commonly found in plants, and it is extremely rich in proteins. It is source of good cholesterol which is known to protect against cardiovascular diseases. It is well known as a stimulant for milk production for breastfeeding mothers. #Moringa leaves can be dried at low temperature and made into powder, but note that fibre plays an important role in slowing down the digestion of food and regulating blood sugar in the body, therefore consuming the leaves whole gives more value to its health benefits. The more a vegetable or fruit is cut up or broken down it loses out on some of the most important #antioxidents like #vitamin C and #carotenoids and increases the loss of #electrolytes like #potassium and #calcium.
It is best not to cook the leaves in temperatures higher than 160° F which also destroys valuable #antioxidents. When using the leaves for brewing tea, remove the boiling water from the heat and wait about 2-3 minutes before pouring onto them. It is also suggested to add the leaves at the end of the cooking time to gain full health benefits.
I like to steep the #Moringa in cold water with some ginger stalks, lemon slices and a bit of honey, and leave in the fridge overnight - makes an excellent chilled drink. It does not lose any of its #antioxidants this way, and according to a study published in the journal Food Chemistry in 2010, cold brewing is one efficient way to prepare iced tea for maximum health benefits.
