Coming Soon on Living Positive Fiji: The Gay Health & Hygiene Series 🏳️‍🌈

Let’s talk about the things we all do… but no one ever properly taught us.

This new series is here to cover gay hygiene, s*xual health, and HIV-informed self-care, in real, simple, judgement-free ways.

We’ll be talking about:
• What is douching (and how to do it safely)
• Intimate hygiene for different s*xual roles
• Preventing STIs
• HIV, U=U, and staying healthy
• Body confidence and self-care
• Honest conversations we wish we had earlier and more.

Whether you’re a top, bottom, vers, vers Top, Vers Bottom, transgender, or a man who has s*x with men, your health matters, your body deserves care, and your questions deserve answers.

Because living positive isn’t only about taking medication, it’s about knowledge, confidence, and thriving.

Stay tuned. Let’s learn, laugh, and level up our gay health together.

"When we care for our bodies, we honour our stories, and rewrite the future with pride."

Correct & Consistent Condom Use: Your Simple but Powerful Protection 🛡️

Condoms work — but only when used correctly and every time.
Inconsistent or incorrect use is one of the biggest reasons people still get HIV, STIs, and unplanned pregnancies.

Here’s what correct and consistent condom use really means 👇

✅ Use a condom EVERY time you have s*x
Not sometimes. Not “only when you remember.”
One unprotected encounter is enough.

⏰ Put it on BEFORE any ge***al contact
HIV and STIs can be transmitted before pe*******on.

📦 Check the expiry date & package
Expired or damaged condoms break easily.

🖐️ Open carefully
Use fingers only — no teeth, blades, or scissors.

🎈 Pinch the tip
This leaves space for semen and prevents breakage.

💧 Use the right lubricant
✔ Water-based or silicone-based
❌ Oil-based (Vaseline, oils) — they damage condoms

🔁 One condom per act
New condom for each round, each partner.

🚮 Remove and dispose properly
Hold the base, withdraw while still firm, tie, and discard in a bin.

⚠️ Remember:

Condoms reduce risk of HIV, STIs, and pregnancy

They are most effective when used correctly + consistently

They work for everyone, regardless of HIV status

📌 Condoms don’t fail — incorrect use does.

👉 Protect yourself. Protect your partner. Protect your future.

A new rapid assessment reveals that unsafe injecting practices, driven by an absence of harm reduction services such as needle/syringe programmes, are putting people who inject drugs in Fiji at increased risk of HIV transmission. The findings come as the Pacific island-nation continues to face one of the fastest growing HIV epidemics in the world.

To tackle Fiji’s escalating HIV epidemic, the Ministry of Health & Medical Services - Fiji, in collaboration with World Health Organization Western Pacific Region, UNDP and partners, is implementing a comprehensive HIV Surge Strategy (2024–2027) and HIV Outbreak Response Plan. These efforts aim to reduce new infections, improve access to treatment, and ensure stigma-free, confidential care for all.

Commissioned by the World Health Organization’s Division of Pacific Technical Support and UNDP and supported by the The Global Fund, the assessment was carried out on the request of Fiji’s Ministry of Health and Medical Services by the Kirby Institute at the University of New South Wales, Fiji National University and the Australian Injecting & Illicit Drug Users League - AIVL.
