Jupiter at Opposition — January 10 🌌

On January 10, Jupiter reaches opposition, placing it directly opposite the Sun in our sky and giving us the best view of the giant planet this year. Rising at sunset and setting at sunrise, Jupiter will dominate the night, shining brighter and appearing larger than at any other time.

This is an excellent opportunity for skywatchers. With binoculars, you can easily see Jupiter’s four Galilean moons lined up on either side of the planet, changing position night by night. A small telescope reveals colorful cloud bands, atmospheric details, and sometimes the famous Great Red Spot as it rotates into view.

Even under light-polluted skies, Jupiter will be unmistakable—a steady, cream-colored beacon outshining nearly every star. 🔭✨
