We’re Hiring!

Freewave Aged Care is looking for a part-time Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist to join our team across South West Sydney, South East Sydney and Illawarra/Shoalhaven.

This is in-home aged care — Support at Home participants and private clients — working one-on-one with people in their own homes.

But here’s the part that matters.

We don’t hire often. And we don’t hire easily. We look for the 1%.

People who didn’t just fall into aged care, they chose it. Because this work is different.

It’s not clinic-based. It’s not transactional. It’s not “next patient”.

You’re walking into someone’s home. Their life. Their routine. Their independence.

And what you do, how you show up, genuinely matters.

This is really positive news.

It means something very simple, but very important — everyday care like showering will be easier to access, without people needing to worry about the cost.

We see every day how much these supports matter, not just for health, but for confidence, comfort and independence at home.

We welcome this change, and we’re always here to help if you have questions about what it means for you or your family.

Minister for Aged Care and Seniors Sam Rae says he is listening to older people who have made it clear they want showering, dressing and continence support considered clinical care.

Support at Home is bringing significant changes across aged care, and many health professionals and community organisations are still navigating how the new system works.

To help make things clearer, Freewave Aged Care is offering free Lunch & Learn sessions — available both face-to-face and online.

These short, practical sessions provide an overview of Support at Home, how the program works in practice and how referral pathways are evolving.

Sessions are available for:

• GP practices
• Hospitals
• Rehabilitation teams
• Allied health providers
• Independent living villages

Whether your team prefers a face-to-face session over lunch or a convenient online session, we’d be happy to organise a time that works for you.

An important resource for carers.

Carer Gateway offers much needed, valuable support - don't hesitate to reach out.

If you’re a carer feeling stressed, sad or frustrated, it may help to speak with a counsellor to discuss your situation.

Counsellors can provide strategies to help you work through your emotions.

Carer Gateway provides free counselling to unpaid carers. There are three types of counselling options available:

👥 in-person one-on-one counselling
🗣️ in-person group counselling
📞 phone counselling.

Aged care reform was meant to make life easier.

For many older Australians and their families, it’s doing the opposite.

At Freewave, we see people delaying help because they’re worried about costs.

Families overwhelmed by paperwork and confusing rules.

Older people stepping back from support because the system feels confronting or simply too hard to navigate.

We see it every day - the love, worry, advocacy and quiet strength of families and carers standing beside the older people in their lives.

Growing older should never mean losing your voice, your choices, or your dignity. And no family should feel alone in speaking up when something doesn’t feel right.

That’s why we’re sharing this. Because protecting the rights of older people isn’t just policy - it’s personal. It’s about real people, real families and making sure every older person is treated with the respect they deserve.

We’re proud to support the call to strengthen and uphold the human rights of older Australians.

This week we join the Australian Human Rights Commission in the call for worldwide action to promote and protect the rights of older people. From 1–7 February, people around the world are coming together for the Global Rally for Older People’s Rights.
Despite ageing populations everywhere, there is still no binding UN convention dedicated to protecting the human rights of older people. That needs to change.
In 2026, the United Nations begins drafting a Convention on the Rights of Older Persons and Australia has an important role to play. The Australian Government’s decision to support this historic process is welcome. We encourage all political parties and governments of Australia to support this initiative.
Importantly the voices of older people must be heard in the drafting of such an important international instrument.

Sometimes the most meaningful feedback comes from people going through some of life’s hardest moments.

Rod reached out to Freewave while trying to support his late father. He wasn’t a client - he just needed guidance during a really difficult time. He shared these beautiful words with us:

Being able to help families with advice, direction and support - even when there’s no formal service in place - is something we believe truly matters in community care.
