Many older people and families are feeling worried about the cost of care right now.

This is a really helpful resource that explains what support may be available if paying aged care fees feels overwhelming.

Independent advice and advocacy can make a big difference, and we encourage anyone who’s unsure to take a look and get the right information.

Great care doesn’t come from paperwork. It comes from people.

You can have plans, systems and processes - but what truly makes the difference is having support workers who know you, understand your routines and notice the small changes that matter.

When care is consistent, workers can spot early signs that something isn’t quite right and respond before small issues become bigger problems. That means safer care, stronger relationships and more peace of mind for everyone involved.

At Freewave, we design our services around continuity. We believe care works best when the same familiar faces show up - people who care, who notice and who take responsibility.

Because care isn’t just about getting tasks done. It’s about dignity, trust and feeling safe in your own home.

This is how we’re raising the bar.

Consistency in care isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s everything.

Too many people tell us they feel unsafe or unseen when support workers keep changing. Small changes in mood, routine or health can go unnoticed - and that matters.

At Freewave, we do things differently. We prioritise continuity, so the people supporting you know you, and you know them. That familiarity helps prevent issues before they arise, builds trust and makes care safer, stronger and more respectful.

Because care isn’t just about tasks - it’s about people, relationships and peace of mind.

If you or a loved one want care that truly sees, knows and supports you, Freewave is here.

Staying safe in the heat 🌡️

With the current heatwave, we’re checking in on our clients, their carers and families, and older members of our wider community.

Hot weather can be especially tough on older people, and looking out for one another really matters during times like this.

A few simple reminders:
• Drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty
• Keep cool indoors where possible - use fans or air conditioning and close blinds during the day
• Avoid heading out during the hottest part of the day
• Wear light clothing and take cool showers if needed
• Check in on older neighbours, friends and family - a quick call can make a big difference

If your circumstances change, you’re not feeling well, or you’re worried about someone else, please reach out. The Freewave team is here to support our community.

If you have an emergency, don't delay, please call 000. We are not an emergency service.

Let’s take care of ourselves - and each other - through this heat.

We're sharing this important Summer Clinical Alert from Aged Care Quality & Safety Commission

☀ As most of the country swelters under extreme heat this week, it’s important to support older people to stay cool, hydrated and seek help early if symptoms of heat-related illness appear.

🌡️ Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for older people and with existing medical conditions. People who are isolated may also be more vulnerable. Remember to check in with older people in your care or community and take steps to stop heat-related illness.

Look out for these signs in the older people:

🔸 a sudden rise in body temperature
🔸 confusion or altered mental state
🔸 seizures
🔸 nausea and vomiting
🔸 loss of consciousness
🔸 a weak, rapid pulse.

If you notice any of these signs it’s important to provide first aid to cool the person down and contact emergency services. If you’re concerned about an older person’s wellbeing in a heatwave, you should act.

Choosing care for yourself or someone you love is deeply personal. It’s about trust, reassurance and knowing someone will truly be there when it matters most.

Freewave Aged Care was born of one family's passion. Everything we do is guided by care, purpose and a commitment to people’s wellbeing. Our goal is simple: for clients and families to feel genuinely supported, properly cared for and never left wondering. Consistent care brings confidence. Clear communication brings calm. Feeling heard, seen and respected brings peace of mind.

Care should feel steady, human and trustworthy - and that’s exactly what we aim to provide, every day, at every moment that matters.

Sharing this important reminder from Older Persons Advocacy Network.

The new Aged Care Act brings stronger protections, including access to financial hardship support. No older Australian should ever feel they have to reduce essential care because of financial pressure - support exists, and we're here to help people navigate it.

Our free and confidential support is available 24/7 for anyone needing help to understand the changes or navigate the hardship process - just call 1800-271-002. At Freewave, we make sure no one ever walks alone.

Money worries can happen to anyone. Many older people may feel unsure about discussing financial stress. Needing support is not a sign of failure and you have the right to ask for support without judgement. Applying for financial hardship can help you stay in control of your aged care, maintain your wellbeing, and make aged care decisions based on your needs - not your bank balance.

OPAN has created a fact sheet to help you understand your options available if you’re finding it difficult to pay aged care fees.

To view the fact sheet, visit our dedicated New Aged Care Act page: https://opan.org.au/new-aged-care-act/
