At Anasa Healing Center, we help you actually feel good again—because life’s too short for survival mode. I’m Jo, and I am passionate about guiding others on their path to wellness and self-discovery. My journey in the healing arts began in 2009 when I had my own life crisis and desperately needed guidance to navigate some big challenges. Since then, I have dedicated myself to mastering various techniques that promote holistic health and well-being. As a certified HeartMath trainer, Reiki master, hypnotherapist, and Spinal Flow student, I bring a unique blend of skills and experiences to my practice. My approach is rooted in the belief that true healing encompasses the mind, body, and spirit. Over the years, I have helped countless individuals find relief from stress, achieve emotional balance, and connect more deeply with themselves. Whether through HeartMath’s science-based techniques, the soothing energy of Reiki, the transformative power of hypnotherapy, or the restorative practice of Spinal Flow, my goal is to support you in achieving a state of harmony and wellness. I am committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where you can explore and embrace your journey to health. Together, we will work towards your goals, empowering you to live a more vibrant and fulfilling life. I look forward to supporting you every step of the way. Warm regards,
Jo Underwood

Love this! What are you grateful for?

When you engage in gratitude, mindfulness, acts of kindness or simply focusing on positive experiences, your brain immediately releases a “happiness trifecta” of neurotransmitters:

▶️Dopamine: The “reward” chemical. Gratitude and acts of kindness activate the brain’s reward center (nucleus accumbens), creating a “helper’s high” that motivates you to repeat the behavior.
▶️Serotonin: The “mood stabilizer”. Mindfulness and focusing on the positive boost serotonins, which enhances feelings of calm, focus and emotional balance.
▶️Oxytocin: The “bonding hormone”. Acts of kindness and social connection triggers oxytocin which lowers blood pressure and increases trust and empathy.

The brain follows a “use it or lose it” principle. Repeatedly “switching on” these states leads to physical changes. Just like a physical muscle, the more you practice gratitude, the thicker and more efficient those neural circuits become. Consistent mindfulness has been shown to reduce the size and reactivity of the amygdala, the brain’s alarm system, making you less reactive to stress. These practices also strengthen the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for emotional regulation and rational decision making.

Humans are evolutionarily hardwired with a negativity bias - an instinct to prioritize threats over rewards for survival. Intentionally focusing on positive experiences acts as a “counter-vote” to this bias. Over time, this trains the brain’s Reticular Activating System (RAS)- a filter in the brain stem- to prioritize noticing opportunities and “wins” instead of just scanning for dangers.

Furthermore, these practices directly combat the physical damage caused by stress. Gratitude and mindfulness can lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol by up to 23%. They also trigger the “rest and digest” system, which lowers heart rate and promotes a baseline state of relaxation rather than “fight or flight”.

Coherence is an amazing gift.

When the heart is calm and coherent, the brain functions more clearly and creatively...

Here’s a nice little life hack!

Here’s a nice little life hack!

Your brain can’t obsess and hum at the same time.

Humming works because it shifts neural focus.

When you hum:

• Your brain prioritizes auditory processing
• You stimulate the vagus nerve
• Your exhale naturally lengthens
• Parasympathetic tone increases

Intrusive thoughts thrive in unregulated states.

Humming introduces rhythm.

Rhythm stabilizes breathing.
Breathing stabilizes physiology.
Stable physiology reduces mental noise.

It’s not mystical.

It’s nervous system mechanics.

Try this:

Inhale slowly through your nose.
Hum on the exhale for 5–10 seconds.
Repeat 5 times.

Notice what happens to your thoughts.

Save this for later.

⚠️ Feeling tired… but wired?
Snappy for no reason? Trouble sleeping, focusing, or relaxing — even when life looks “fine”?

Your nervous system may be stuck in protection mode.

⚡ Fight or Flight speeds everything up so you can handle stress.

🌿 Rest & Restore slows everything down so your body can heal.

The goal isn’t to stay calm all the time — it’s learning to shift smoothly between these states.

❤️ When your breathing, emotions, and heart rhythm work together, your body feels safer… and healing becomes easier.
