Breaking the Silence – Addressing Stuttering in Tanzania
Stuttering, also known as stammering, is more than just a speech impediment. It affects self-expression, confidence, and mental health — especially when left unaddressed. In Tanzania, limited awareness and cultural stigma make life even more difficult for those who stutter.
At TUSIKILIZWE – LET US BE HEARD FOUNDATION, we are committed to creating a supportive environment for individuals with stuttering through education, advocacy, early intervention, and therapy.
We focus on:
- Understanding the causes and risk factors of stammering
- Recognizing the early signs and symptoms
- Promoting early diagnosis and management
- Providing a platform for therapy, counseling, and confidence-building
Stuttering can significantly affect one’s life in the following ways:
- Low self-esteem
- Social withdrawal
- Fear of speaking in public
- Occupational and academic limitations
- Depression and anxiety disorders
Our work aims to reduce these impacts by promoting inclusion, support, and equal opportunities. We also aim to combat stigma and raise national awareness through campaigns, school programs, and public forums.
Let us be heard — because every voice matters.
