The PSOAS muscle - the PRIMARY STORER OF ALL STRESS - a relatable acronym!!
This muscle covers a large portion of the front, of the lower, middle spine. It is placed in front of our p***c bone and dives down into the deep inside and middle of our leg, anchoring it to the lesser trochanter.
The main purpose of the PSOAS muscle is to maintain the front of the body. It can tighten our back and allow us to stay short in the gut. This muscle can tie our stomach in knots and give us backache.
Every hit we have ever taken whether it be physical, mental, emotional, chemical, electrical, energetic are all stuck and stored in this muscle behind the gut.
Many of us are tight in this area, from working too hard to ‘hold it together’, 'keep it in', 'tip toe through life' or shorten our back to 'stand our ground'.
When this muscle is healthy, it relaxes when we stand or walk. An overtightened Psoas pulls the lower back forward, spills guts downward and even pitches the head and neck forward off our body.
When we relax and re-tone psoas muscles, we create a new healthier posture and mental attitude. Nearly every condition that we can imagine most certainly begins with problems in the gut.
As we sit, stand or walk, we can learn to live without waist back and head up. This allows the gut to soften and let energy flow through.
I enjoy working in this area of the body in a non-invasive gentle way. It is not an area where one may expect to “push through the pain”.
