Little did we know that our Group Childhood Development Class Registration would turn into a social experiment as to how far Non-Native people will go to say they're from Akwesasne just to receive a $25 honorarium for participating. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

We wish we could share some of the names with yall because that's been HILARIOUS! All we can say is that we know the rez, - that's that culturally safety thing and knowing/being from your community thing that we're always talkin about!

We're always advocating for Indigenous Midwifery and our Indigenous communities and talking about how bad Pretendianism is. It's literally identity fraud at the base, and it can lead to even worse types of fraud. There's a clout behind being Indigenous, and the stakes get higher when there is financial restitution and equity measures involved. These people are devoid of shame, taking from Indigenous peoples who have already endured so much.

These people are out here trying to fraud us out of a comparatively small amount, and we're handling it, but what does that say about these types of people when it comes to much larger amounts, like government funding for Indigenous projects, government contracts, speaking opportunities, scholarships, Indigenous-allocated job positions?

We're still going to keep on advocating, because we're just little rez kids who had to grow up strong and nobody is going to do it for us 🤷‍♀️. It's always been a for us, by us game, and we're ready to handle that. We're always trying to explain that to outsiders - we don't have the same opportunity to just go to school, put in the work, grow up, and like...live, all within a system designed for us. We have to advocate, deliberate, and even sometimes capitulate, but we like HAVE to do it to ensure whats best of our people.

Our friends at Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health Family Spirit program have also offered a great opportunity on top of these classes. For those who register with them to track their journey, those people will receive a $20 USD e-gift card from them and if those who continue to track their journey with them at 12 and 18 months post-course, will receive another e-gift card. Pretty great if you ask us!

“Oh its JUST soil” Nah, that’s our Mother Earth right there. That’s our land, our history. It grows our food, it feeds our animal relatives. Its supposed to help cleanse our waters. Its the recycled matter of all the plants, people, water, ALL LIFE…all the way back to the beginning of our world. It’s undisputed what the factories did to our area, without care for the earth and the people who live on it. Just soil? We think you meant just our soul.

Hear us out: a show about an Indigenous Auntie as a PI/detective, she walks a little weird cuz she was hit by a drunk driver early one morning coming from a man’s house. Her mysterious dark secret is that she wears prosthetic feet to hide the hooves (which gets discovered in Season 2 btw) and she has secret people (of a smaller stature/mystical nature) bring her evidence to use but her fellow people of the law are just amazed by her ability to find stuff. Here’s the catch, when someone puts out a spirit plate to find their missing stuff, some of the evidence goes missing. There could be a whole episode dedicated to that.

There could even be a whole fight on a spiritual plane where St. Anthony and the Little People are fighting over items to keep and send back.

Just a suggestion, ya saw it here first. 🤣😅

Indigenous Midwifery is no LESS than Registered Midwifery, it’s quite literally MORE than, and it HAS TO BE. There’s no shortcuts when its OUR OWN PEOPLE that we are safeguarding.

Hey there friends! Did you previously complete the health survey component of our research study and want to get the soil and water sampled on your property?

We will be contacting those who have previously expressed interest in the soil and water sampling utilizing the emails provided, so keep a look out for an email from our program assistant today. (Pssst, sometimes it will go to your spam folder!)

If you have previously completed the health survey but did not say you were interested in the soil/water sampling, but have changed your mind, shoot us an email at assist@onkwehonwemidwives.com !

****We will be taking 20 interested participants and prioritizing those who live by or have access to rivers/water sources and those who own/have permission to collect soil samples from their properties.
