Yes to (occasional) summer treats…no to all-or-nothing guilt

1️⃣Choose the treat because you really want it NOT because your hungry. If you're hungry try and choose something to nourish you. Eating treats when hungry can increase the overall amount you will consume!

2️⃣ A treat is an occasional food, not daily - even on holiday. Over indulging when on holiday can lead to unintentional weight gain often resulting in restrictive diets when you get home.

3️⃣ Enjoy it slowly and mindfully - enjoy each bite

⚖️ A treat can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet but only if they truly are a treat (ie occasional)

Hi, I’m Helen,

If we haven’t met yet, or it’s been a while, here’s a little reintroduction.

I’m a busy mum of two, a keen (though very much amateur!) padel player, and I love a quiet moment in the garden.

I help women in mid-life cut through the noise around food and health so they can feel confident, in control, and calmer about their nutrition.... without extremes, guilt, or overwhelm.

Because you’re already juggling a lot, and the last thing you need is another complicated plan or pressure to ‘do it all perfectly’.

Instead, I focus on small simple steps, done consistently. The kind that can lead to big shifts in how you feel and show up for your life.

One recent win I’m really proud of? Helping a client lose 2 inches from her waist by combining my pharmacy and nutrition knowledge to review her medication and guide her through simple, sustainable changes to her diet.

That’s the kind of support I love to offer....practical, personal, and rooted in real life.

The goodie bag at my most recent Taste, Learn, Nourish event, contained some sachets of ground nuts and seeds…. a simple way to boost your fibre, protein and heart healthy fats. 💪

Here is a lovely photo from one of the attendees…she’d taken the sachets with her on holiday! ☀️

A small decision, but one that shows how the little things we do can support our health in meaningful ways. ❤️

Did you know that around 25% of our daily energy comes from snacks?

That means they really matter, especially in summer when we’re out and about more.

☀️ A few quick tips:
1️⃣ Prep snacks in the morning or the night before
2️⃣Pair sweet options with something high in fibre or protein, like a handful of nuts
3️⃣Take your own snacks on days out (you’ll save money and feel better!)
4️⃣Make the nutritious option as easy to grab as the pre-packaged one
5️⃣Keep bought treats as a treat, not just something to plug the hunger gap

⚖️ Balanced snacks can help reduce cravings later

Vegetables don't have to be the sad bit on the side of the plate you feel you have to eat, they really can be the star of the show tasting delicious, feeding your gut microbiome and supporting your health!

I can't quite believe this was a year ago today!!

It was the first time I've been in the spotlight speaker and presented my business to my WiBN networking group.

Last month, I spoke at four networking groups, with my talk "The Heart of the Matter: empowering women to reduce their risk of heart disease".

Love it when a new dish works perfectly (and I get 2 portions for the freezer too!)

We don't just eat with our mouths - our eyes have to find it delicious too. The colours in this dish perfectly complemented the flavour.

I made this Vegetable Biriyani with Roasted Cauliflower and Chickpea curry last week.

Making a large portion of this dish worked so well for my hungry family and I got 2 portions to go in the freezer.

I used these freezer portions last week on days I was super busy with clients and making the finishing touches to my Taste. Learn. Nourish. event.

It kept me well fuelled reducing the need to grab snacks to keep me going.

#1 Hydration 💧🍋🍃
When you're on holiday, the temperature is going up or you're being more physically active your body's fluid requirement goes up.

💧Water makes up around 50-55% of a woman's bodyweight and around 60% of a mans.

✅ It is essential for our bodies to work properly.

🧠 Not drinking enough fluids can cause headaches, poor concentration and even trick us into thinking we are hungry!

💦 Your fluid intake can come from all drinks apart from alcohol.

🥤Watch out for drinks with added sugar - these are best avoided or kept to a small, occasional amount.

👉Top tips
1️⃣ Keep a jug or a bottle of water on your desk or carry one with you to remind you to drink!
2️⃣ Add lemon, cucumber, mint or berries to make it more exciting
3️⃣ Sparkling water with ice can feel more refreshing in the hot weather

🚰 Aim for 6-8 glasses of fluid a day but on hot days or when exercising we need to increase this.

⏰ Try drinking regularly throughout the day rather than waiting until you feel thirsty - you are already a little dehydrated by the time you feel thirsty!
