In this week's , Lauren Torres — a rising second-year podiatric medical student at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine — shares why she’s pursuing a career in :

“As a first-generation student within my family… I harbor a love for pediatrics, stemming from my previous work as a medical assistant but also from my younger brother who is special needs and has cancer… My goal is to be a physician that gives back to the rural and underserved communities along with children, as I have seen the disparity among these groups and within my own Hispanic family and community.”

Congratulations to Lauren for being awarded the APMSA Travel Grant in July. Lauren recently attended the American College of Foot and Ankle Pediatrics' 10th Annual International Pediatric Foot & Ankle Seminar.

In this week's , Camellia Russell — a rising fourth-year podiatric medical student at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine — shares what excites her most about and how it's shaping her career in :

I decided on a career in podiatry because I discovered my passion for medicine and eagerness to help improve people's quality of life. The human body's functions have always captured my attention, and podiatry gave me a great platform to link my interests in healthcare with problem-solving. During my academic journey, I recognized how vital foot and ankle health is for maintaining overall mobility and well-being.

What excites me most about foot and ankle surgery is the chance to create a real and lasting impact on my patients' lives. I'm attracted to this field's intricacies, as it uniquely blends biomechanics, anatomy, and surgical precision. Each patient presents a different case, which pushes me to think critically and use my knowledge creatively to deliver the best possible care.
