Some more highlights from last weekend’s celebrations! It was so fun to see everyone’s smiling faces and awesome dance moves at the 2025 Endless Summer Beach Party. Our vendors and performers make it the best night of the summer every year.

Thank you to everyone who donated and volunteered for our annual Back to School event! This year, we gave away more than 230 backpacks plus school uniforms and supplies. At the event, Richstone families enjoyed games and crafts to kickoff the new school year.

Our Back to School event is about more than just supplies, it is about bringing our community together to help our students get the tools they need to show up to school confident, prepared, and excited! An awesome backpack filled with notebooks and pencils can give a student the boost they need to be their best in the classroom.

Last week, our Kids Club Summer Camp students had fun during Reading Club. Thank you to our volunteer Ava, who is a Girl Scout earning her Gold Award by developing and facilitating the Reading Club program.

The students read the book 13 Gifts by Wendy Mass, about a young girl who goes on a mysterious adventure and learns about herself along the way. This session’s art project was rock painting, where students got to express their creativity.

This summer has been amazing, and we are thankful to our Richstone Family Center staff and volunteers who make our summer fun possible.

Thank you to our summer volunteers! Our Kids Club Summer Camp students have enjoyed so many activities including playing basketball with our volunteers. They love the lively competition and friendly team bonding.

Take a trip down memory lane, and get ready for Richstone’s Endless Summer Beach Party 2025!

We have so much fun every summer at our annual Beach Party and are looking forward to a night of delicious food and drinks provided by local South Bay hot spots. This year’s theme is A Night in Rio, and we can’t wait to dance the night away to the amazing live music provided by the Citrus College Night Shift band.

Last week, our Kids Club students participated in a Jimmy Miller Foundation Ocean Therapy Day! is dedicated to using surfing as a modality for healing mental and physical illness.

Our students enjoyed learning to surf and getting to know the instructors. Art activities were also led by ! Students made beautiful watercolor paintings of the beach inspired by the awesome day.

We are so grateful for the Jimmy Miller Foundation’s support of Richstone’s Kids Club year after year. Our students always look forward to the opportunity to participate in Ocean Therapy days. It is because of organizations like the Jimmy Miller Foundation and Indivisible Arts that Richstone is able to serve and heal our community.

OUR HISTORY

The Richstone Family Center was incorporated as a non-profit social services agency in 1974. In 1977, the State of California awarded Richstone a grant as one of the first of 6 child abuse treatment and prevention programs in the state. With this grant Richstone Center was established as a comprehensive agency providing services to approximately 70 families a year. In 1980, Richstone was recognized as a neighborhood family center by ICAN (Los Angeles County Inter-agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect). Since that time, Richstone has expanded its staff from six to more than 135, increased the number of programs offered; expanded the area of service from Hawthorne to include the southwest corner of Los Angeles County and the Greater South Bay; increased the number of sites offering services to include six school districts, opened a Transitional Living facility and a satellite office in Torrance. Richstone offers services for children from birth to 18 and for parents in their teens to grandparents in their sixties. Throughout this period of rapid growth, Richstone invested 83%-90% of all revenue to directly serve the highest need communities.
