Healing Aspirations with Amani: Holistic Dental Health Coach

Healing Aspirations with Amani: Holistic Dental Health Coach I help mothers heal tooth decay & gum disease holistically while taking charge of their children's oral health. Assalaamu alaikum, and hello!

Break free from drill, fill and bill cycle at the dentist! My name is Amani Obeid, and I'm a chemical engineer by trade and a holistic dental health coach by passion, and my mission is to help women overcome their fear of the dentist, end tooth pain, simplify natural oral care and turn around their diet and lifestyle with ease so they can keep their teeth for life and energize their bodies! A specialty of mine is helping moms deal with early childhood tooth decay, having halted cavities in both my children by the grace of Allah (God). And their tooth decay was a surprise given I fed them raw dairy, cod liver oil, and a sugar-free diet. Diet is very important, but I also provide my clients with a toolkit of other holistic strategies to help them break free from the cycle of dental disease. Dislaimer: I am a holistic health coach who supports women in achieving their health goals, and I have a passion for dental health. However, I am not a health or dental practitioner. Hence, I don't claim to diagnose, cure, prevent or treat any disease. My role as a coach is to offer information and help people develop healthy habits. However, please be advised that the information I provide is not a substitute for specialist advice tailored to your own individual circumstances. Please note my page includes affiliate links so if you purchase any of these items through the links on this page, I make a small commission that is used to help keep Healing Aspirations with Amani running. I only link to products I would personally use and support. If you purchase through my links, you have my warm thanks!

Subhan Allah.

It's been exactly 28 years to the day since my traumatic bike accident on Sunday May 19, 1996.

And today, it's Sunday May 19, 2024!

I discovered that I actually don't have many photos of me as a child smiling with my teeth showing.

I found one taken on December 21, 1995, a few months before my life changing experience.

Subhan Allah, I feel that there must be a wisdom behind this...

In my younger years, I used to have a lot of sadness, anger, and resentment behind my accident.

"If only I didn't ride my bike that day."

"If only I didn't ride on that side walk."

"If only I didn't ride beside that bush."

"That bush...if it wasn't for that bush, my hand and bike's handlebar wouldn't have got stuck in it."

"If only...then I wouldn't have face planted into the ground and heard the shattering sound of my front adult teeth against the cement."

But you know what?

Overtime, I have slowly become more conscious, aware, and accepting of Allah's plan for me in this Dunya (Worldly Life). I have embraced that what happened to me is something I cannot change.

How?

I found comfort in the following hadith:

"The Messenger of Allah (๏ทบ) said: 'The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive for that which will benefit you, seek the help of Allah, and do not feel helpless. If anything befalls you, do not say, "if only I had done such and such" rather say "Allah has decreed and whatever he wills, He does." For (saying) 'If' opens (the door) to the deeds of Satan.'" (Sunan Ibn Majah 79)

Was this journey easy? Heck no. It took a lot of mindset and emotional work, and most important, a lot of work on my faith.

It was a choice I had to make. And it's something I continue to choose for myself every time I see my partial denture, day after day.

However, just because I had my first set of partial dentures at age 16, doesn't mean I should relinquish all control of my oral health.

That would be another extreme.

Whether it's getting a tooth drilled and filled every 6 months, or chronic puffy and bleeding gums, I learned that these things are still within my power to change by Allah's will and mercy.

And one of the greatest lessons in personal transformation was my realization that I could use my pain in the service of helping others.
Whether it's safely extracting 3 failed root canaled teeth, removing numerous amalgam fillings following a strict protocol, or successfully healing unexplained tooth decay in two children, I will not say I've seen it all, but I CAN say I have some solid experience navigating what it takes to achieving greater oral and total body health.

I am in charge of my oral health, and I am not at the mercy
of my dentist and the health care system. And this is what inspired me to start "Healing Aspirations with Amani" more than 5 years ago, alhamdullillah.

And I firmly believe that is not due to "all my knowledge". No, this is a blessing from Allah the Almighty. Allah guided me to gain the knowledge. And He is the one who blessed me with all these experiences and tragedies (which are truly blessings in disguise).

So you'll notice I'm very careful with my language. I don't claim the healing is from me. No, verily it's from Allah, the one and true Healer.

However, I did have to make the intention. And I did have to put in the work.

But the result, how and when it happens, is up to Allah.

And this is what I remind my clients time and time again.

Tie your camel, and rely on the results from Allah.

Healing cavities disease and airways issues is a spiritual journey more than anything else. It's a test of your faith. It's a means for you to deepen your relationship with your Creator.

I want to thank you all for being part of my journey.

It truly warms my heart when I receive feedback from clients and followers of my page that the information I share is changing their lives for the better.

Alhamdulillah.

I'd love to hear from you.

Answer to today's post!

Narrated `Abdullah bin Ja`far:

I saw the Prophet (๏ทบ) eating rutab (fresh dates) with qitha' (snake cucumbers). Sahih al-Bukhari 5447

Al- Bajuri said:

He (๏ทบ) combined between dates and cucumbers to attain the benefits and avert the harms of each. This is because the hotness of dates neutralizes the coolness of cucumber i.e. dates neutralise the negative effects of cucumber and the latter neutralises the negative effects of dates.

Ibn Hajar al-Haytami said:

You should know that the Messenger of Allah He (๏ทบ) used to eat from the fruits grown in his town and never refrained from it. this is a means of maintaining one's health.

This hadith teaches us that it is allowed to combine between two types of idam and the hadith does not state that both are chewed at once. Rather, it means that both are eaten one after another so they are both in the digestive tract.

WARNING: Transparency Post

(Oops! I did it again.)

Yesterday shortly before 5:00 pm, we had just finished dinner, and I headed upstairs to continue my preparations for my upcoming Workshop, Yes, You Can DIY! Dentist Yourself, when my husband brought me frozen GF/DF dessert to enjoy as a treat (a vegan cheesecake).

I absentmindedly took a bite of the still frozen dessert, when all of a sudden I heard a sharp snap that echoed in the living room like a loud gunshot. Well, at least to me it was that loud.

Yep, it's just as I thought.

My removable partial denture (flipper) broke...
..right on the junction where the fake teeth attach to the section that covers the hard palate.

Sigh...alhamdullillah.

It already had a hairline crack that I noticed had developed a few days ago. And I told myself: "Oh, I hope this flipper can just make it till after I've hosted my Workshop. I really don't have extra time now to visit the denturist, especially with an 18 month old going through a growth spurt and clinging to me like there's no tomorrow."

You see, I'm not the average dental patient that just accepts whatever the dentist or denturist offers. I'm very involved in the treatment process, I ask questions, I'm (extremely) picky, I give feedback, I ask "Why this and not that?" and "What about this alternative B", "Have you heard of treatment C?", "I don't like the marginal gingiva of that left lateral incisor", "midline's a bit off here", "touch up this angle here" and so on and so forth. It takes several weeks of back and forth appointments before I'm *somewhat* satisfied with the final result.

And I say somewhat satisfied, not from a place of ingratitude, but from a place of knowing and appreciating full well that nothing is like the real thing that is from our Creator, Allah.

Even dental implants, which are considered the gold standard of our current times, will never ever come close to a real tooth filled with the divinely created and intricate dentinal fluid system with its life giving, nourishing, alkalizing abilities, and not to mention its ties with our mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual selves.
But don't get me wrong, definitely I am soooo grateful I live in a time where I can actually have a dental intervention that allows me to speak clearly without a lisp and reveal my imperfect smile without feeling shame from a rather large gap (not 1, not 2, but 3 missing teeth). Alhamdullillah.

The denturist who made this flipper has since retired, and his daughter took over his practice. I had already seen her a couple of months ago because it had a hairline crack and I was being proactive by getting it repaired promptly to avoid the scenario I'm in right now. The plan was to get a new partial denture done later this fall, as it's been four years since I've had this one made initially by her father.

Alhamdullillah, I'm not toothless, as I have kept my first partial from more than a decade ago as a backup. It doesn't fit right, of course, because as time goes by the periodontal bone continues to resorb where I lost my three front teeth. So I'm casually flipping it in and out and fiddling around it with my tongue as I type this out now.

When it happened, my son quickly ran to meet me in the washroom, gently rubbed my back and comforted me. I told him it's ok, alhamdullillah.

Years ago, I used to get easily triggered and feel a lot of shame when a flipper broke. Now it feels more like a part of who I am. Kind of like a man who has a scar he is proud of from having fought in a battle for the sake of Allah, except it's a battle of a fierce, brave and yet feminine and delicate Lioness.

I reminded my son to recite the following duaa:

ุงู„ุญู…ุฏู ู„ู„ู‡ู ุงู„ู‘ูŽุฐูŠ ุนุงูุงู†ูŠ ู…ู…ู‘ูŽุง ุงุจุชู„ุงูƒ ุจู‡ ูˆูุถู‘ูŽู„ู†ูŠ ุนู„ู‰ ูƒุซูŠุฑู ู…ู† ุฎู„ู‚ูู‡ ุชูุถูŠู„ู‹ุง

"All Praises due to Allah, Who saved me from that which He has afflicted you with and favoured me more than many others He created."

The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him encouraged us to make this supplication when we see that Allah is testing someone in this dunya.

Yes, my teeth have been one of my greatest tests.

And you know what?

Alhamdullillah.

I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for that horrific bike accident almost 26.5 years ago.

I still remember the sound of my teeth getting crunched against the pavement as I face-planted in front of our 3 story apartment building. It used to haunt me, I used to look at it with so much resentment, anger, sadness, sorrow and remorseful regret. But now I embrace it as a defining and pivotal moment in my life.

This life is a test of whether we have faith in God and know that our ultimate return is to Him. This dunya isn't Paradise. No one has a "perfect" life. We all have our struggles, and each of us probably can't imagine what someone else might be going through. We need to remember there are those who are much worse off than us, and to be grateful for the infinite blessings Allah has bestowed upon each and every one of us.

We also must remind ourselves of what Allah states in the Qur'an:

ู„ูŽุง ูŠููƒูŽู„ู‘ููู ูฑู„ู„ู‘ูŽู‡ู ู†ูŽูู’ุณู‹ุง ุฅูู„ู‘ูŽุง ูˆูุณู’ุนูŽู‡ูŽุง

โ€œAllah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.โ€ (Qur'an: 2:286)

So if you feel like you're in the same dark place where I used to be many years ago, and your dental problems seem like a huge insurmountable mountain in front of you...

I want to remind you that your dental pain wasn't meant to destroy you.

It was meant to remind you of your divinely given purpose to humble yourself and worship the one true God, Allah, Lord of the Worlds.

I look forward to having you join me In Shaa Allah so you can learn how to Yes, DIY! Dentist Yourself. Comment below with "I want to DIY" and I'll send you the deets to join.

Excited, honoured and grateful to serve you.

I ask Allah to put forth blessings in this Workshop, make it a means of helping others draw nearer to Him, and for me to renew my intentions so it can be an action that counts for me rather than against me on the day of Resurrection. Allahumma Ameen.

What if you didn't need all those expensive supplements?

What if you don't need the fancy tooth powders?

Are you open to the possibility of healing in another way?

What if you acted from intuition?

What if you were more curious?

What if you were able to trust yourself again with your healing?

How much would that be worth and where would your oral health be right now?

And what about your toddler's pearly whites?

What if you invested in a faith-based and strategie approach instead?

Found the ROOT CAUSE(S) and solved it?

And what if you just contacted me and started?

It would be that easy, wouldnโ€™t it โ“โ“โ“โ“โ“

In certain villages in China, the approach to emotional, mental, and physical health is radically different from the Western approach.

The doctors are paid every month by the entire village when every single person is healthy. When someone is ill, the family of that individual is no longer obliged to pay the doctor.

Imagine with me a health care system where professionals are paid to keep people healthy rather than profiting from illness.

Imagine with me the future of dentistry, where a dentist is paid to keep you cavity and gum disease-free.

A time when the drill, fill and bill cycle ceases to exist.

A time when a dentist is eager to balance your body chemistry and help you on your path to emotional healing through homeopathy, energy, and Prophetic medicine.

A time when each tooth is looked upon with the respect it deserves, and not a non-vital rock that is easily excavated and discarded.

A time when people fully understand that the mouth is the door to health.

But the change starts with YOU, the patient.

- Taking responsibility for your health.

- Seeking knowledge.

- Finding support from those who share your vision.

- Looking at the "whys" instead of the "hows".

And knowing full well that Allah (God) has Promised a cure for every disease.

When you wake up in the middle of the night from the pains of that aching tooth, I want you to realize that it is a source of mercy. Allah Wants you to draw near to Him.

Pray and take action. Pray and take *one* step.

It's not going to be that one supplement, nor the wooden toothbrush, nor the expensive mouthwash that will heal you.

Healing is from Allah. Have faith and trust in Him.

But you must choose action over complacency.

Tie your camel and place your trust in Allah. โค

I invite you to join my upcoming workshop: Yes, You Can DIY! Dentist Yourself.

This just might be the answer to your prayers.

Ready?
