In nearly 11.5 years with CareChoice, Mary has been more than a support worker, she has been a constant source of care, dedication and encouragement for the clients she supports.

Recently, she was recognised as CareChoice Employee of the Month for her outstanding support of a client who joined CareChoice with very limited mobility. Working closely with Occupational Therapists, Mary helped set up a physiotherapy and exercise routine, supported every step of the client’s progress and celebrated milestones like taking a walk in the park with a four-wheel walker, something the client had previously resisted.

Mary’s dedication is a perfect example of how CareChoice’s qualified, highly skilled and compassionate Support Workers go above and beyond to make a real difference in the lives of the clients they support.

Today is World Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day. 🫶

Facts:

🔸More than 20.000 Australians live with a spinal cord injury (SCI)
🔸Most injuries occur between the age of 15-24 years
🔸The most common cause are traumatic injuries (81% of cases under the age of 65 years)
🔸80% of people with a spinal cord injury are male
🔸Approximately 1 new spinal cord injury occurs each day

This year’s theme “Fall Prevention, Spinal Cord Protection” shines a spotlight on one of the most critical yet preventable risks for people living with spinal cord injuries (SCI).

Women’s Health Week emphasises the importance of prioritising personal health and wellbeing of all women, girls and gender-diverse people.

To kick off the week, Jean Hailes for Women’s Health launches a new tool today to help women stay on top of their health checks.

By answering a few short questions about yourself, you’ll receive a personalised list of recommended health checks, learn when to get them and get expert advice on bowel health, breast health and cervical screening.

In addition, each day this week Women’s Health Week focuses on a different health topic shown across our five tiles.

Accessible travel starts here ✈️

We’re excited to share Try Before You Fly at Adelaide Airport, a free, hands-on experience designed to make flying more accessible and inclusive for people with disability, health conditions or flight anxiety.

This incredible program, proudly co-founded by Adelaide Airport and Virgin Australia, has already supported over 150 participants to feel more confident and prepared for air travel.

The best part? You don’t need to be a NDIS participant or have a formal diagnosis to join.

✨Why participate? Try Before You Fly can help you:
✔️ Reduce anxiety about flying
✔️ Build independence and confidence
✔️ Practice travel skills in a low-pressure environment
✔️ Learn how to ask for support from airline and airport staff

By practicing check-in, going through security and even boarding a real aircraft (without taking off), participants gain confidence and independence in a calm, supportive environment.

In 2000, at just 20 years old, Julie’s life changed forever. She was involved in a serious car accident that left her in a coma for five months. The collision caused paralysis on her left side and lasting impacts to her memory, eyesight and balance.

Through it all, one thing stayed the same...Julie’s mischievous, fun-loving personality✨

Today, Julie is an inspiration to everyone around her. She’s a proud author of 'Determination Beats Disability', works in hospitality where she thrives on connecting with people, has returned to her love for horse riding and is a member of Warrnambool's 'Find Your Voice Collective', one of the largest all-abilities choirs in Australia.

Her journey is a powerful reminder that while a brain injury can change many things, it doesn’t define who you are. With resilience, support and determination, Julie's life is filled with purpose, laughter and joy.

This Brain Injury Awareness Week, we honour Julie and the thousands of people living with a brain injury.
