Thank you to everyone who completed our survey on connected care and respiratory therapy!
What we heard: Respiratory therapists across Canada are sending a clear message following the introduction of federal Bill S-5 (Connected Care for Canadians Act): health information gaps are common, and putting patients at risk.
๐ The reality:
83% of RTs need access to patient information from other systems
63% often canโt get that information when it matters most
Missing data includes pulmonary function tests, sleep studies, medication lists, and device settings or data
โ ๏ธ The impact:
Repeated tests and wasted resources
Delays in diagnosis and treatment
Increased risk of errors and unsafe care
Greater inequities for rural, Indigenous, Francophone, and vulnerable populations
๐ The need:
RTs support connected care, but it must work in practice. That means:
Seamless data sharing across all systems and sectors
Integration of respiratory devices into health records
Access to complete, real-time patient information
Bottom line: Interoperability isnโt optionalโitโs essential for safe, high-quality respiratory care.
