Vanuatu Ferry every week is transporting between 70 to 80 “parachute bags” of green kava to Port-Vila…. And the number is constantly increasing… Today they had 134 bags ! And other inter-island vessels like Tevanu and Saranuku are also moving a lot ! This is a huge quantity of kava going strictly for the local drinking market !

Santo is now by far the island supplying most of the green kava consumed daily in the Vila’s kava-bar, which is great for Santo farmers but which make it more challenging for farmers from green kava “ traditional” supplying islands …

French President Emmanuel Macron drunk a few kava shells during this exceptional visit to Vanuatu, and he has confirmed that he will work to reopen the kava market in France 🇫🇷
