LOOKING FOR CANCER SURVIVORS TO SHARE THEIR STORY!
So this was me six years ago, just finishing up chemo. Today, I am turning my experience into something positive. I am writing a book with my professor--for I am currently in graduate school pursuing my Masters in Clinical Counseling and Psychology--who like me is also a cancer survivor. Both of us realizing how scarce resources are that address early and middle adult cancer survivors, we decided to do something about it.
So much of what we know about cancer relates to much older generations and sadly, children. Healthy adults are the last considered when most think of cancer, yet, the number of adults in early to mid-life continue to grow rapidly. In addition, the survival rate for this age group has not budged in thirty years.
This book is a response to that gap in both the literature and the survival rate, in hopes that the needs and fears specific to this population can be better addressed.
In writing this book, we hope to share the lived experience of others that have walked a similar path as us. We believe that the collective wisdom of a community is greater than any two people on their own could hope to offer. We also desire to offer more diversity besides just our two stories.
We are looking for cancer survivors who were diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50 to share their personal reflections and insight with us. Your stories, or clips of stories, will then be included in our book, and in turn, offer hope to others that might be facing the fear and angst of a new diagnosis.
Please private message me if you are interested. Include your e-mail and I will be happy to send an outline of what we are looking for.
And share this post. The more human stories we can incorporate into our book, the more we will be able to close this gap and save lives!
