Yinstinct Yoga

Yinstinct Yoga Yoga I have been teaching Yoga for 15 years. I also hold an Advanced Diploma in Nutrition Coaching and a Pilates Mat teaching qualification.

I support people one-to-one in nutrition and exercise. I hold weekly classes and occasional workshops in Greystones and online. I train other Yoga teachers around the world in my Certificate in Teaching Yoga for Menopause, and run a CPD in Menopause Awareness for Wellness Professionals. Teaching retreats a few times a year, which are very popular, I also love offering a blissful immersion into all aspects of Yoga in stunning surroundings in the West of Ireland. Hatha Yoga is the basis of all Yoga styles, and gives beginners and experienced practitioners an essential insight into all it can provide. My classes are aimed at bringing you towards greater strength, comfort and health, with essential focus on the healthy alignment of the joints and spine to avoid the injury that can come with a less refined practice. I teach pragmatically through evidence-based techniques that enhance the benefits of yoga for all, and especially for women who are in the throes of their perimenopause transition, or in the years beyond.

✨ Warrior III doesn’t have to be intimidating!

There are so many safe and effective variations you can explore—micro-bending the knee, using the floor for support, or adding resistance bands for extra challenge. Each option helps build balance, core strength, and stability while protecting your joints. 🧘‍♀️

This video is part of a growing YouTube playlist on Yoga for Bone Health, designed to give teachers and practitioners practical tools for safe movement.

☺️A few things to give you an insight into both my heart and my work. I hope you’ll enjoy scrolling through.

Slides 1 & 2: SO happy to see my book being read in various places. I love that my message is Awareness, Acceptance, Adaptation and Advocacy reaches beyond, to people I will never meet. 🥰

Slide 3-5: some of my Yoga for Menopause graduates go in to make it their thing in a big way. Others just use it to make their usual classes more supportive and relevant. I love seeing graduates post about the work they are doing. It’s like watching my baby go out in the world! 👶🏻

Slide 6: written by me from the heart. I REALLY want this work to spread to as many women as possible. They will never know about me or where Yoga for Menopause and Beyond originated! That’s my hope ☺️

Slide 7: I am honoured when students really understand what I’m going for: developing stronger bodies (and brains and hearts!) while expressing gratitude for the body we have. 😇💪

Slide 8: seeing that, even teaching online, I help facilitate lasting connections between teachers. 🧘🏽🧘‍♂️🧘🏻‍♀️

☺️Oh I hope you don’t mind my heartfelt splurge!

Thank you for reading!

What are you proud of?

✨ Yoga High Lunge | Build Leg Strength Safely for bone health & Osteoporosis

Leg strength is essential for those with osteoporosis 🦵💪.
While one-leg moves can sometimes feel overwhelming, this High Lunge variation challenges both legs safely — and keeps your students upright, steady, and working where it matters most.

💡 Pro tip: Encourage them to go slower, even pausing halfway down or up, for progressive strengthening.

✨ Side Plank Variations in Yoga | Core Strength for Bone Health

Our side body is part of our core — and core strength matters for physical, mental, and even neurological health. Yet, yoga can sometimes be too linear, without enough side-body stimulus.

👉 Here are a few safe Side Plank variations to explore, building core strength without strain — especially important for those with osteoporosis or low bone density.

If your face-yoga, or Yoga for Menopause, or ordinary yoga training tells you it’s great because it can help your students stay looking younger… it’s not yoga. 😳

♥️ Yoga is dwelling in the truth of what is. One truth is aging. It’s not to be avoided. In it lies deep connection to truth.

😊 Feeling better is great. Looking younger is irrelevant.

Toby thinks he has found a ball when he finds what USED to be a ball!

The worse for wear, he is equally excited to be in relationship with this less-than-perfect specimen. It fills his cup.

🐶 As we age, we can all learn from Toby, right?

In our relationship with ourselves, in our meeting of others, as we age… perfection is never a thing.

The illusion of perfection creates unstable ground and disappointment.

Personally, I prefer the less-than-perfect specimen of myself… the truth (of self and others)… she is kinder, more compassionate, empathetic, humble and UNITED with all those with “imperfections”, instead instead of OTHER as (radical honesty splurge) I used to think I was, or would be.

And she sees beauty in that which has experienced… life.

If you would like to help your students over 40 live their lives in connection with the truth of perimenopause, post-menopause and aging, rather than fighting themselves in an effort to reverse, join me for Yoga for Menopause and Beyond teacher training. Running since 2020, with hundreds of inspired graduates, it will also give you the tools to support your clients to feel better physically and symptomatically, and targets important areas, such as osteoporosis, cognitive decline, heart heart and pelvic floor health.

✨ Side Angle Pose in Yoga | Safe Hip Strength for Bone Health & Osteoporosis

Side Angle Pose can feel strong, stable, and functional 💪 … but what about the hips?

In this variation, we use the back foot and the whole skeleton, while protecting vulnerable cartilage, which becomes more fragile in menopause and with age.

👉 These small adjustments make a big difference, helping your students feel safe and empowered in their practice, even with osteoporosis.

As I journeyed perimenopause, I did a lot of grieving.

I never thought I could be ok with letting go of some of what I had been, or APPEARED to be.

Because really what I was grieving was being SEEN... grieving HOW I was seen.
Seen to be valuable in the way we are told is valuable.

Young
Energetic
Sexy
In the thick of things
Endlessly resilient
On the up-and-up

♥️ Now post menopause, and as close to 60 as I am to 50, I am happy to be making friends with the new me.

🍁 Though some versions of me were fab, and still create the fabric of me, they are not as friendly now, to my current needs and desires.

🔥 I don’t have to be young to be sexy.
♥️ I don’t have to be sexy to be valuable.
🧘🏻‍♀️ I don’t have to be energetic at the expense of soft down-time.
😌 I don’t have to be at the centre to matter, and to feel part of things.
😇 I can still be on the up-and-up, but this time to more self-knowledge, more honesty, more humility and compassion.

I’ll take it: the pain and the beauty.

What people you used to be are you losing touch with, in loss and in freedom?

Thank you to my friend/colleague Deb for bringing the Joan Didion quote to my attention.

💪 Warrior I for Strength | Yoga for Bone Health
Did you know that isometric contraction is the jewel in the crown of yoga? ✨

Not only does it build strength, it also supports blood pressure (recent studies even show it may be the most effective type of contraction for BP!).

This fun approach brings new demand to your yoga practice in safe, achievable ways — while also challenging the brain and balance. And when you understand menopause, you’ll see why it all matters SO much.
