After more than 14 years of dedicated service, we take this opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the remarkable contribution of Sue Morris to the Rural Locum Service and the wider midwifery workforce. Sue’s final day with the Rural Locum Service is today, marking the end of an extraordinary chapter of service., as she steps into retirement.

Sue has been a tireless advocate for rural midwives and rural midwifery. Her work extended well beyond locum coordination, encompassing mentoring support, rural education workshops, and assistance with relocation and establishment grants.

Sue is known for her kindness, empathy, and exceptional listening ear. Her unwavering commitment to caring for and supporting midwives through their times of need has left a lasting impact.

Please join us in extending our warmest wishes to Sue for a well-earned retirement.

Voluntary bonding scheme applications open for graduate midwives

Health NZ has confirmed that graduate midwives working in any setting who qualified prior to 31 December 2024 are eligible to apply for the Voluntary Bonding Scheme. Registrations of interest (ROI) are now invited via the Health NZ website for a four week period from 21 November to 19 December 2025. Registrants will be advised in 2026 if they have been accepted or not. A further ROI for those who graduate in 2025, and categories will be provided in early 2026.
