March 20th marks the first day of spring; a season of renewal, growth, and new beginnings. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒธ

Today is also the start of Nowruz, which means โ€œNew Dayโ€ in Persian, the worldโ€™s oldest continuously celebrated new year. Aligned with the spring equinox, over 300 million people across 15+ countries mark this 3,000-year-old festival of renewal. Recognized by UNESCO and the United Nations, Nowruz transcends borders, religions, and languages and is a shared celebration of light, family, and the return of spring. ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒž

Today, we were grateful to experience a small part of that celebration here at PAHS. Our Director of Operations, Hanif, generously shared some beautiful homemade treats (made by his wife, Nalish) to celebrate the day โ€“ including Dhokla, a savoury Indian sponge cake from their own family tradition, and sweet Hot Date Chutney. Traditionally, a Nowruz spread might include items like sprouts, wheat pudding, dried fruit, and apples โ€“ each symbolizing renewal, health, and prosperity. A simple and meaningful act of kindness that brought warmth (and a little sweetness!) to our day. ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฅญ

Itโ€™s moments like these that show how connection, culture, and community can brighten our world. โœจ

We were grateful to host a meaningful Lunch & Learn information session recently, featuring a thoughtful presentation by Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre: Your Life, Your Legacy โ€“ Estate Planning 101. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

Planning ahead isnโ€™t just about paperwork โ€“ itโ€™s about peace of mind. Taking the time to make decisions now can ease stress for your loved ones later, giving them the space to focus on what truly matters. โฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Thank you to the team at Victory Memorial for sharing your knowledge and guiding our community through the importance of advance planning. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

We were proud to see our Executive Director, Amanda McNally, representing Peace Arch Hospice Society as a panelist at the Surrey White Rock Board of Tradeโ€™s Women Who Lead International Womenโ€™s Day celebration. โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’

Aligned with this yearโ€™s theme, Give to Gain, the event highlighted how mentorship, collaboration, and shared opportunity help move gender equality forward. When women invest in one another - through time, knowledge, and support - progress accelerates for everyone.

At Peace Arch Hospice Society, we see this spirit every day in the remarkable women who power our work. From compassionate staff to dedicated volunteers, they bring care, strength, and wisdom to supporting individuals and families through grief and end-of-life journeys. ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Together, they remind us that when women lift one another up, entire communities are strengthened. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’“

The original Lion King movie ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒ… served as our inspiration for our first Childrenโ€™s Grief Camp of 2026. Over two days, eleven children experiencing grief from the loss of a loved one had the opportunity to come together and be with peers, have conversations around death, dying, and grief, learn ways to cope with big emotions, and have fun. ๐Ÿ’› We crafted lion masks, grubs, and guiding stars โญ in memory of our special people. We had the chance to test our skills and wisdoms in station games and a safari scavenger hunt ๐Ÿพ, and we got to host two amazing guests: Face painter Mackenzie (MJC Artistry - Face Painting Vancouver) ๐ŸŽจ and Drum Master Kwasi ๐Ÿฅ who both brought art, joy, and smiles to the childrenโ€™s faces.

A deep thank you to three special women who crafted and donated beautiful items for the children: Lion themed tote bags and Comfort Critters ๐Ÿงต from Tammy, handmade bunnies ๐Ÿฐ from Denise, and lion rocks ๐Ÿชจ from Audrey. Each item added more magic โœจ for this special weekend!

And finally, this camp would not have been possible without our amazing volunteers who show up and give their incredible energy, attention, love, and wisdom to the Camp. Thank you! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’ซ

On Pink Shirt Day, weโ€™re thinking about the young people who walk through our doors. ๐Ÿ‘š

This chair represents someone who deserves to feel safe, heard, and respected.

In our children and youth grief programs, every seat holds a story โ€“ of loss, change, confusion, anger, love. For many young people, those feelings donโ€™t always have words. What they need most is emotional safety.

Pink Shirt Day is about standing up to bullying and choosing kindness, respect, and inclusion. At PAHS, we create spaces where children and youth can show up as they are โ€“ without judgment or pressure, free to be themselves. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Today, we invite everyone to lift up a young person, offer a kind word, or simply listen. Thatโ€™s how we make every space safer. ๐Ÿซถ

Lunar New Year begins today, February 17th, welcoming the Year of the Fire Horse. ๐Ÿฎโœจ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ”ฅ

The Horse represents energy, independence and forward momentum. With the Fire element, 2026 brings passion, courage and bold transformation โ€“ a vibrant year to move confidently toward new beginnings. ๐ŸŒ…

Celebrations span 15 days and are rich with meaning โ€“ homes are cleaned to welcome fresh luck ๐Ÿงน๐Ÿ , red decorations symbolize prosperity and protection ๐Ÿงงโค๏ธ, and families gather to share meals and blessings ๐ŸŠ๐ŸฅŸ๐Ÿฅข. Using the term โ€œLunar New Yearโ€ honours the many cultures who celebrate across the world ๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ“ธ William, our Finance Minister, thoughtfully prepared sweet tofu-based dessert dumplings for the occasion. Thank you, William, for sharing this meaningful treat with us! ๐ŸฅŸ๐Ÿ˜‹

A joyful season of renewal, connection and hope โ€“ may the Year of the Fire Horse inspire courage, warmth and prosperity for all. โœจ
