Families who have a child with a disability have a very strong sense of purpose, love, and commitment. This motivates them to ensure that their child’s needs are met: from advocacy to personal care to medical services that far exceed those of other children. Most families reach a POINT in their LIFE and the LIFE of their child when they realize that they cannot continue to meet all of their needs. These families go through a great deal of soul searching to come to the POINT in which they are ready to request services for the person in their LIFE with a disability. All people age and have needs that change. At new POINTS in their LIFE, they need different services. In order to meet these needs, we have multiple facilities and POINTS of service – from small group homes in the community to larger facilities with continuous nursing care. We believe that we are called to serve others and POINT to God and not to self. We believe that honoring each LIFE, regardless of ability or skills, is honoring God’s teachings about LIFE and brings Him glory.

Not only is this week the Morton Pumpkin Festival, it is also National Direct Service Professional (DSP) Recognition Week! Every DSP who works in our homes is a VITAL member in our LifePoints family, and they are living out our mission DAILY as they care for and love our residents. If you know a DSP who works here at LifePoints, tag them in the comments and let them know how important they are!

It's Morton Pumpkin Festival week!!! While LifePoints won't be in the parade this year, our friends cannot wait to watch all of the other parade floats go by from their parade-watching-spots! We are excited to see all of the fun decorations and eat all of the pumpkin food this week!

More than likely, all of us have lost a family member at one time or another. I lost my Granny back in March, and when I reminisce about her, it makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. I felt like crying at the Celebration of Granny’s life. I know that I am not alone in wanting to cry when someone has passed away – even our Lord Jesus cried when his friend Lazarus had died. John 11:35 tells us that “Jesus wept” when he heard from Mary and Martha about Lazarus dying. Crying is healthy for us to do when we are grieving, and we don’t have to do it alone. Jesus grieved alongside Mary and Martha, and I grieved alongside my mom and siblings when my Granny passed. The Lord surrounds us with others to help bring comfort during hard times. Lazarus’ story didn’t end when he passed, and we have hope promised by Jesus that ours doesn’t end either. (Post created by Chelle.)

Our Oakwood friends hosted their annual Oakwood Olympics this past weekend, and it was such a fun afternoon spent together! Residents and their family members participated in bowling, wheelchair races, and balloon throwing events - the competition was fierce, but everyone cheered on their competitors and celebrated each others' wins! Thankful for the staff who make events like this possible for our friends!
