It’s time to sling some soup. I’m recovering from rotator cuff surgery and have enlisted my Mr. to be my prep guy. Borscht is the goal today.

Drop the puck! I don’t have a name for this project yet.

Which state or territory do you think we’re starting with?

Hint: there’s a ziptop bag involved and the cooking will start on Monday (currently Sunday).

I had some leftovers. I had cooked a huge pork shoulder (butt?) this weekend. We ate small portions of it Saturday, had gyros that I had portioned off before roasting and cooked on Sunday, and there was still about 28 million kilotons of roast left.

If you don’t have roast, don’t eat meat, or want to use a different meat or protein, go for it! It’s Finnish. And as much as my people are traditionalists, the reason we eat what we do is because it’s what we have.

So I decided to avoid the challenge of dinner planning and sat down to a mug of hot chocolate and a few minutes on the FaceSlap.

Then I saw it. A recipe for a Finnish cabbage casserole. Just five minutes down that rabbit hole, I found LIHAKAALILAATIKKO. (Autocorrect just went to their room and slammed the door.)

And then I adapted. Here’s the Magid Method.

Preheat oven to 350. Get a casserole dish out.
