If you’ve been told your iron is low but can’t seem to get it up… absorption might be the real issue.

Iron is essential for energy, focus, and mood but if your body isn’t absorbing it properly, no amount of supplements will help.

Here’s what you need to know:

1️⃣ Type of iron matters: Heme (animal-based) iron absorbs better than non-heme (plant-based).

2️⃣ Vitamin C helps: Pair your iron-rich foods with citrus, berries, or bell peppers to boost absorption.

3️⃣. Watch the blockers: Coffee, tea, and certain meds (like antacids or PPIs) can reduce how much iron your body takes in.

It’s also important to note that low ferritin can cause symptoms even if your iron levels appear normal. This condition, known as Iron Deficiency Without Anemia (IDWA), occurs because ferritin, the body’s main iron-storage protein is depleted first.

That means you can still experience fatigue, dizziness, and poor focus even when standard iron tests look fine.

Before starting any iron supplement especially if you’re in menopause or have had a hysterectomy, talk with your healthcare provider. Too much iron can be just as harmful as too little. Test, don’t guess.

If you’re constantly tired, foggy, or dragging through the day even after “fixing” your iron your gut health or hormones may be the missing piece.

As I get older, I’ve learned that wellness isn’t just about food or fitness, it’s about how you live every day.

It’s the small, intentional choices that make the biggest difference: how you move, rest, speak to yourself, and protect your peace.

These 10 habits keep me grounded, balanced, and aligned mentally, physically, and spiritually.

You don’t need to do them perfectly. Just start with one… and keep showing up for yourself.

Because you are truly something special 🤎

👉🏽 Save this post as a reminder to come back to when life gets loud.

1. Create more than you consume. Pour into your purpose, not your phone.

2. Take a walk without your phone. Let your mind and body actually unplug.

3. Eat to nourish your body, not numb your emotions.

4. Move your body with intention every day. Consistency beats perfection.

5. Be in bed by 10. Your hormones and your energy will thank you.

6. Stop scrolling first thing in the morning. Protect your peace before the noise.

7. Speak life over yourself daily. Your words shape your reality.

8. Rest before burnout hits. You don’t have to earn rest you deserve it.

9. Be unapologetically you. Authenticity attracts alignment.

10. Love yourself fully, deeply, and without conditions.

Feeling constantly tired, foggy, or low on energy?

It could be more than stress or a busy schedule, low iron might be part of the problem.

Iron is essential for carrying oxygen throughout the body. When levels drop, your cells don’t get enough oxygen, leading to fatigue, poor focus, shortness of breath, and midday crashes. For professionals, this often means lower productivity, motivation, and mental clarity.

Iron deficiency is more common among:
▪️ Women with heavy cycles
▪️ Pregnant women
▪️ Those following vegetarian or vegan diets
▪️ Anyone consuming low amounts of iron-rich foods (like red meat, fish, or legumes)

If you’ve been told your iron is low but can’t seem to raise it, absorption may be the issue. Here's why:

▪️ Type matters: Heme iron (animal sources) absorbs better than non-heme (plant sources).
▪️ Vitamin C helps: Pair iron-rich foods with citrus, berries, or peppers to help with absorption.
▪️ Coffee & tea can block absorption.
▪️ Medications like PPIs (Prilosec, Nexium) can reduce absorption by lowering stomach acid.

It's also important to note that low ferritin can cause symptoms even if iron levels look normal, a condition called Iron Deficiency Without Anemia (IDWA). Since ferritin stores iron, you can feel fatigued, dizzy, or foggy even when lab results seem “fine.”

Before supplementing, talk with your healthcare provider. Too much iron can be just as harmful as too little. My motto is test, don’t guess!

Your energy is your greatest professional asset, make sure your body has what it needs to sustain it.

If you’re ending the day mentally and physically drained, your health buckets might be running low.

The 3 Pillars of Health: Mental, Spiritual, and Physical, help you stay balanced, energized, and resilient.

The goal? Pour something into each bucket every day.

1️⃣Mental Health – Protect your peace with meditation, journaling, deep breathing, or simply setting boundaries.

2️⃣Spiritual Health – Stay grounded through gratitude, prayer, or spending quiet time in nature.

3️⃣Physical Health – Refill your energy with movement, hydration, balanced meals, and a good night’s sleep.

Small, consistent habits build lasting balance.

Which pillar are you filling today?

When was the last time you took time to recharge?

This weekend reminded me how powerful rest really is. Slowing down, soaking in peace, and recharging allows you to return to life and work with more clarity, energy, and joy.

We don’t always need more hustle, sometimes we just need a holiday.

How do you like to recharge on the weekends?

As women, especially in our 30s, 40s, and 50s, we carry so much. Family, work, and the expectations of the world.

But the truth is, our strength and peace come when we’re grounded in the things that truly nourish us:

🙌🏾God for faith, clarity, and guidance

🌿Nature for healing, restoration, and balance

✨️Good vibes for joy, positivity, and the energy we choose to carry

When you align your spirit, body, and mind, you don’t just get through life. You thrive in it.

Here’s your reminder: Stay grounded, stay centered, and watch your light shine brighter every single day.

Healthy Motives 365

Hello, my name is Dr. Lindsay Banks and I am the founder and CEO of Healthy Motives 365. I have always had a passion for health and wellness and I wanted to find a way to share my knowledge and experience with other women to help them achieve their OPTIMUM health.....hence Healthy Motives 365 was born!!

In regards to my education I hold a Doctorate of Chiropractic, a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology and I have been a certified personal trainer through American College of Sports Medicine since 2009.....but enough with the boring accolades.

Why Healthy Motives 365???

As women we have many roles to play. I am a wife, a mother, a professional and sometimes I just do not know how I do it all! Even though I know how important health is..... I at times have put my own health on the back burner to ensure my family and household are good. We become engulfed in our everyday priorities which can lead to not making the best decisions in regards to healthy eating and being physically active. As women, we tend to put ourselves last and as a result our health can suffer. But think about it....if we are not in good health how can we possibly be at our best and be there for the ones we love so dearly????
