AMAUROSIS FUGAX
• Amaurosis fugax means “fleeting blindness”
• It is a temporary, painless loss of full or partial vision in one or both eyes
• It may last for seconds, 30 minutes or longer
• Possible causes for transient vision loss, includes low blood pressure, migraine, compression or inflammation of the optic nerve
• It is a warning sign of potential underlying vascular issues
• Other concerns include a possible blockage of the internal carotid arteries
• It can be a precursor to a stroke
• Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying cause.
• Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent more serious complications.
