Sometimes an injury is more than what it appears to be… 🦴 although the X-rays show us fractures (like this ulnar styloid) it doesn’t show the ligament laxity that then results in wrist instability!!! 🙁

For this hockey player - this Meunster Splint stabilised his ORIF & prevented forearm rotation to ensure he regained full wrist stability, mobility, strength & function! 💪🏼

He is now fully back in action - on & off the hockey field! 🏑

A group of South African Occupational Therapists donate their time to assist with post operative splinting & pressure garments for burns patients in Uganda and Benin who have not had access to adequate care. 🫶🏼

Jen Blenkinsop will be riding The Munga Equipe mountain bike relay race in support the cause. 🚴🏼‍♀️💪🏼

Cute Project SA raises funds to assist with resources needed to give these patients the necessary care that is lacking in these countries. ♥️

🇿🇦 Today is 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲 in South Africa & we are feeling extremely proud to be not only born & bred in SA, but also celebrating our OT heritage & where we all began 🇿🇦

All 3 of us studied our Occupational Therapy degrees at Wits University 💙
With Nat & Jess doing post graduate diplomas in Hand Therapy at the University of Pretoria 🧡 Nat additionally did her post graduate diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation at UP too! 👩🏼‍🎓

This year the Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa celebrates
𝟠𝟘 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕤 of OT in action! 🫶🏼💚 & we hope to keep their legacy of excellence & impact going strong!

We just can’t resist a good 𝘉𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 & 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 shot! 💙

Splinting early allows us to prevent stiffness in joints that don’t need to be immobilised, as well as getting swelling down quickly AND positioning affected joints appropriately! 👌🏼

This metacarpal fracture is supported circumferentially in this clam splint, with the MCP joints in a flexed position while allowing for wrist, finger & thumb mobility! 🤩🫶🏼
