Just a little heart-melting moment 🩵

An attempted hijacking and gunshot to her right (dominant) arm left Mrs Maroo with a fractured humerus & absent radial & median nerve function in March 2024 😔

Her median nerve recovered fully, & she recently underwent a tendon transfer surgery for her radial nerve 🩹 She is working hard in her final stage of rehabilitation, & we are seeing the results!!! 🤩

Hard work pays off! 🫶🏼

South Africa Burns Awareness Week 🔥

Burn injuries happen in a split-second!
At home, at work, or even during play 💥

Whether caused by flames, hot liquids, chemicals, or electricity… burn injuries affect thousands of people across our country ever year!

As Occupational Therapists working in the Trauma ICU at Netcare Alberton Hospital (a Level 1 Trauma Hospital) we see a wide range of burn injuries, & play a big role in their rehabilitation ❤️‍🩹 Our role includes:
🔸 Pain management
🔸 Oedema management
🔸 Prevention of contractures
🔸 Regaining full mobility & function
🔸 Desensitisation
🔸 Scar management including Pressure Garments

Burn injuries don’t have to be a one-way street to disability!!! ♥️

What he came in with VS What he left with! 🖤

Backslabs do a brilliant job… BUT we’ll argue that our splints are even better! 😎

While ensuring our patients thumb/fingers/hands are positioned appropriately for their injury & surgical repair, they allow for
✔️ Early active mobilisation (controlled!)
✔️ Easy mobilisation of unaffected parts.
✔️ Easier on the eyes too! 😍

This EPL repair regained FULL active mobility & thumb function! 💙🩵
