Condolences to this family😢 RIP Chantelle Delport. 💔
Some people come into our lives and quickly go, some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same. 🙏🏼

It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know our beautiful warrior Chantelle passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by her loved ones.

She taught us so much about how to live a life filled with joy and love during hardships and we can all hold onto her words of encouragement during this time.

She did not lose this battle, she will forever be our warrior 🖤

Thank you for all your support.

Risk factors and prevention:
The following factors may raise a person’s risk of developing melanoma:
• Sun exposure.
• Indoor tanning.
• Moles. People with many moles or unusual moles called dysplastic nevi or atypical moles have a higher risk of developing melanoma.
• Fair skin. People with fair complexion, blond or red hair, blue eyes, and freckles are at increased risk for developing melanoma.
• Family history. About 10% of people with melanoma have a family history of the disease. If a person has a close relative (parent, brother, sister, or child) who has been diagnosed with melanoma, that person's individual risk of developing melanoma is 2 to 3 times higher than the average risk.
• Previous skin cancer. People who have already had a melanoma have an increased risk of developing other, new melanomas. People who have had basal cell or squamous cell skin cancer also
• Race or ethnicity. Melanoma rates are about 20 times higher in white people than in Black people. However, a person of any race or ethnicity can develop melanoma.
• Weakened or suppressed immune system. People who have a weakened immune system or use certain medications that suppress immune function have a higher risk of developing skin cancer, including melanoma.

🖤Melanoma Awareness Month🖤
What is melanoma?
Melanoma is a very serious form of skin cancer. Melanoma cancer begins in the melanocytes. Other names for this cancer include malignant melanoma & cutaneous melanoma. Most melanoma cells still make melanin, so melanoma tumors are usually brown or black. But some melanomas do not make melanin and can appear pink, tan or even white.

🖤 SHARE IT SATURDAY ~
Today's melanoma warrior is Renae Ohara. This is her story:
Hi there so I had a mole on my middle back.
Someone mentioned to me that I should get checked out and I totally forgot about it. Probably one year later another person mentioned it didn’t look good so I got them to take a photo then shown my dr and he done a biopsy and a week or so later he rang me and he said it was melanoma I remember asking do I have cancer? And he said yes I remember being in shock because I thought melanoma wasn’t serious until I had been told yes cancer. He wanted me to come straight in that week to have it removed but I had a holiday to go on so I just thought I’ll get it taken off when I get back. I showed my stepdad the melanoma and he was like omg Renae you need that gone. I didn’t realize it can go into your body I thought skin cancer was confined to the skin only. I went to dr got it taken off but was told there wasn’t enough healthy clear skin margins so I needed a operation so in 2015 I hade a wide cut done? I don’t know how to spell the wide cut thing. And a sentinel node biopsy and all was clear.
It was Clark level 4.1.4mm stage 1b melanoma then in 2016 I had another melanoma upper back it was superficial spread since then.
I’m 41 live in Australia and hardly ever wore sunscreen I remember running off at the beach when mum was trying to get sunscreen on me I would say don’t worry mum if I get burned I don’t even peel I just go brown 😒atm I am getting test done to make sure swollen lymph nodes that have been present in my neck for over a year aren’t cancer along with a skin check for a suspicious looking lump on my arm. I get only now the seriousness of skin cancer.
