Beware of the Nasties
There is a massive amount of feedlot / intermediate collagen arriving in SA for next to nothing, it’s so cheap, it’s hard to believe. But SA importers are marking it up to sell on to distributors as the pure stuff, which is far from it. It has high heavy metal counts, arsenic and all sorts of other nasties. I know this because I have seen the COAs of these various Collagens.

There are different ways to process and produce collagen – some are using chemicals and the collagen is not hydrolysed in the correct way. However, these intermediate ‘stages’ of collagen – some used in food, others in liquids, others in meats for supermarkets (you don’t even know it’s there). Any of the intermediate ones are cheap and cannot be sold as ‘supplement’ collagen – they are intended only to be used as additives to food. Some are made up of Gelatine which is used in the food industry. But due to the price being a fraction of pure hydrolysed collagen, they are being used.

You will know the unethical product by the smell and grittiness of the powder. Some have added flavours and artificial sweeteners to mask the smell and taste.
