Trots op Danie Putter en Donavin Putter

Putter Blood Runs Deep in Alberton

The current Chairman/Founder of Our Golden Oldies at A Square Forklift Alberton Rugby Club Danie Putter has been part of the Eland family for 20 years. I think it is safe to say he is part of the funiture. What astonishes me about this Lions veteran of 8 years is that he still gives back the to the club.

You can see him running around playing touch with the Madalas, but when called upon to assist his beloved club for an extremely tough UJ fixture at 3rd team level all you hear from him is " KOM ONS JOL"

Danie is an old fashion club man with great love and respect for his club. Thank you Mr Putter.

On the other side of the coin we have the up and coming Putter, earmarked as one for the future, Donavin is the son of Danie and is currently playing his rugby at under 21 level.
With great leadership qualitys he heads up that team as the Captain. Not to be outdone by his dad, Donavin has already played a hand full of games for the first XV. He got his first cap at the age of 19 at scrum half.

This ex- valke scrum half is instramental to the future of our beloved A Square Forklift Alberton Rugby Club.

So gaan dit aan, Rondte 6 van die VSR is verby, baie geluk aan Shannon Millard aka Stones wat die rondte met 'n allemintige 13 punte gewen het en jammer aan Ben Barnard aka Boona wat houtlepels bymekaar maak, maar in sy verdediging, wie sou d**k die Rebels gaan wen? Ek moet se ek is verbaas en trots op die Lions dat 13 van die groep van 24 die Lions gekies het.

The Golden Lions Rugby Union will take Currie Cup rugby – and the coveted Cup which they won last year – back to its stake holders at clubs such as Alberton, Diggers, Pirates, Jo’burg Police and Roodepoort this season.

Alberton (Blue Bulls), Diggers (Cheetahs), Pirates (Eastern Province), Johannesburg Police (Griquas) and Roodepoort (SWD Eagles) will al host games with only two matches to be played at the Emirates Airline Park.

Golden Lions Rugby Union CEO and former Springbok number eight, Rudolf Straeuli says the road back to Emirates Airline Park will go through the clubs this season. “We’re taking the game back to our grassroots and our stake holders.”

A tender process was followed and the GLRU carried out a duo diligence audit after which these five clubs were granted the rights to host the five Currie Cup matches.

“As the president of the Golden Lions I am pleased and excited by the package our CEO, Mr Rudolf Straeuli has presented to the clubs to enable them to earn some funding from the exercise. The Currie Cup games will be hosted at some of our premium clubs that have tendered for these matches and I know it is going to be an enormous success and assist them with their future projects,” said Kevin de Klerk, president of the GLRU.

The first game of the new competition, against the Border Bulldogs, will be staged at the Lions’ headquarters in Doornfontein and the Griffons will play in a curtain-raiser when the Emirates Lions, the Super Rugby side, meet the Sharks.

The Blue Bulls will travel to the east of Johannesburg two weeks later for their match at Alberton Rugby Club, which will be followed by a game between the Xerox Golden Lions and the Cheetahs at the Diggers Rugby Club in Randburg.

The Eastern Province will play the Lions in Greenside at the Pirates Rugby Club, with Griquas playing just next door at Marks Park, the home of the Jo’burg Bobbies.

The last pool match will be hosted by Roodepoort whose head-quarters have recently moved to Roodepoort Hoërskool.

The Cup would be on display at all these venues and supporters would be able to have their pictures taken with the trophy and their heroes, the players, will be available for signing sessions.

Season ticket holders will gain entrance to all these matches at no extra cost.

Haaaak Vrystaaaat!!!

Die Nasionale President van Sangora (South African National Golden Oldies Rugby Association) het die harte van rugbyliefhebbers in Noord-Vrystaat bly gemaak met sy aankondiging dat die Nasionale Goue Oues Rugbytoernooi vanjaar in Welkom deur die Fury Golden Griffons aangebied gaan word.

Eugene van Wyk, grootbaas van Griffonsrugby, sê dat die toernooi wat vanaf 22 tot 24 September op die HT Pelatona-stadion sal plaas vind, `n groot ekonomiese inspuiting vir Noord Vrystaat, spesifiek vir Welkom sal wees.

Daar word ongeveer 40 spanne vanuit alle uithoeke van Suid-Afrika by die toernooi verwag. Baie harde werk is agter die skerms deur Charles Cockeram en sy span gedoen om die suksesvolle toekenning vir die aanbieding van die toernooi te verseker.

Die Internasionale Golden Oldies Sportbeweging het ten doel om sportmanne en vroue oor die ouderdom van 35, wie ’n gemeenskaplike belangstelling in sport deel, bymekaar te bring.

Aan die rugbykant het die Fury Golden Griffons se tradisie 22 jaar gelede - met die stigting van die Richardsbaai Golden Oldies en daarna die Rugga Rhinos in Natal begin. Die span bestaan tans uit lede van regoor Suid-Afrika - die meeste uit die Noord-Vrystaat. Die span is ook onlangs as ambassadeur van Griffon Rugby vereer.

Die Fury Golden Griffons is werklik `n uitstekende span wat tydens verlede jaar se toernooi in Kaapstad al hulle wedstryde gewen het - `n span wat op en van die veld af eenhonderd persent funksioneer. Dit is juis hierdie gesindheid wat verseker dat die Sangoratoernooi baie belofte inhou.

Nie slegs `n rugbyfees kan by die toernooi in Welkom verwag word nie, maar een van die grootste feeste wat die Goudveld nog getref het, word in die vooruitsig gestel.

Bekende gaskunstenaars sal deurgaans gedurende die fees optree, daar word ook ruim voorsiening gemaak vir uitstallers en kosstalletjies. Die gedagte van `n familiefees word beklemtoon. Bulletjierugby sal ook deel van die oumanne se rugbyfees wees.

Weereens welgedaan Clayster aka Clayton Hollenbach wat alweer die Yellow cap op ons Superbru CC gewen het en besig om daai nommer 1 spot verder van ons ander te verwyder.
