So true
Thanks Crohn's and Colitis Awareness for this ๐Ÿ’œ

Some people still think Crohnโ€™s and Colitis are โ€œjust stomach achesโ€.

But for millions living with chronic illness, it can also mean exhaustion before the day even begins, pushing through pain in silence, cancelling plans, and trying to look okay while struggling underneath.

Crohnโ€™s and Colitis affect so much more than people realise.

If you live with IBD, you are not alone ๐Ÿ’œ

26 Years Ago Today

On 26 May 2000, I underwent my first small bowel resection after an abscess perforated in my small intestine, resulting in emergency surgery.
As you can see in the first photo, my daughter was just 10 months old at the time. I didn't take hospital photos back then, so this picture was taken on my first day home after surgery.
The other photos show the two of us through the years as she grew up. Looking back, I'm reminded not only of the challenges Crohn's disease has brought into my life, but also of the incredible blessing of having her love and support .
Twenty-six years later, I remain grateful for every milestone, every lesson, and every precious moment we've shared together. ๐Ÿ’œ

Today is World IBD Day.
I've had Crohn's Disease for more years now than I haven't had it . I had my first emergency bowel resection when my daughter was 10 months old due to an abcess perforating in my small intestine. This was followed by a long period of time of trying to get me on the correct medication followed by not being on medical aid ( medical insurance) and the disease got worse while I was off of medication. I was in and out of hospital once I was back on medical aid ( insurance) the Crohn's Disease had got worse and I had also developed strictures from my previous surgery. I required another operation a right hand hemicolectomy. Which I had . During the surgery they placed a CVP line ( a common procedure) for my TPN and post op meds . The Dr's are meant to xray after doing the procedure and they didn't. Once I got to ICU and was off of oxygen I discovered I couldn't breathe and they xrayed me and found they had accidentally punctured my lung causing a pneumothorax. They had to cut my chest and place a drain to reinflate my lung . Unfortunately a few days later when it was removed they did it incorrectly and my lung collapsed again so they had to bring in a cardiologist thoracic surgeon and re do it .
This resulted in a lengthy ICU and hospital stay .
I don't often talk about and share these experiences. This is just one of my experiences with Crohnโ€™s Disease.
With it being World IBD Day I just wanted to give people a small insight into what people go through .
Surgery didn't cure Crohn's Disease. I still have it . I have medical PTSD from my experiences. I choose to stay as positive as possible and run a support group to help others with the same illness but I too have my bad days . I'm thankful for the amazing people I've met through having IBD . They are my tribe ๐Ÿ’œ
