AMANZIMTOTI
Known as Toti by locals, Amanzimtoti is a coastal town just south of Durban, well known for its warm climate and numerous beaches. It is a popular tourist destination, particularly with surfers. The annual sardine run attracts many to the Toti beaches.
Meaning ‘Sweetwaters’ in Zulu, this town has a rich history and it’s believed to have been named by the famous King Shaka during one of his campaigns. Shaka was brought a calabash of water to drink and, upon sipping it, he commented ‘Kanti amanzi amtoti’ meaning ‘the water is sweet.’
