The brain is fascinating! Lina and Jean are both Sensory Integration trained Occupational Therapists. Which means we spent a LOT of time studying this aspect of our bodies and functioning. Our specialised training involved neuroscience and a deep dive into our Sensory Systems. We each wrote a ‘protocol’ case study that was 70-100 pages long explaining sensory dysfunction in a child we assessed. We studied how to treat sensory dysfunction and submitted treatment videos for marking. Being ASI trained has revolutionised our work with children and in some cases adults too.

Hi there!
My name is Jacqueline de Villiers. I’m reaching out to invite adults (18+) in South Africa with a formal diagnosis of dyslexia to take part in a University of Birmingham research study.

The study explores how a dyslexia diagnosis affects identity, confidence, motivation, resilience, and life experiences.

Participation involves a confidential 60-90 min interview (online). All information is anonymous and ethically approved.

We’ve all had our ❤️ skip a beat when we see kids climbing the highest tree or hanging upside down from a terrifying height. Children have a built in drive to explore their environment and different ways to interact with it. Children develop their vestibular system through movement that is exploring gravity and their heads in different positions, including up-side-down!

Sensory integration involves all the sensory systems working together to produce adaptive behaviours which enhances engagement in various occupations such as self-care, play and education. Sensory Integration therapy is an Occupational Therapy specific intervention which incorporates using all the senses of vision, hearing, touch, smell, taste, vestibular and proprioceptive senses (the senses of balance, movement and body position in space).

The suspended equipment and swings used in the Occupational Therapists practice are specialised tools providing unique, challenging movement opportunities that targets specifically development of vestibular and proprioceptive processing.
