An adventure for the memory bank.
There’s something extraordinary about stepping out of your comfort zone and into the raw wilderness—where you carry everything you need on your back and walk for kilometers through lush bushveld in the heart of Big 5 territory. Our time on the Wilderness Trails in Umfolozi was exactly that.
We moved through landscapes alive with elephant, buffalo, hippo, and our beloved de-horned beasts - watching, listening, learning. No phone. No watch. Just the sun to guide our time, the wind to carry stories, and the bush to teach us what it means to be truly present.
At night, we lay under a blanket of stars, utterly captivated by the vastness above us. Night watch became a surreal meditation—just me, my crocs, and the glint of crocodile eyes across the river. A stillness I’ll never forget.
Life became so simple—no excess, no noise, just the essentials. And in that simplicity, we found abundance.
We woke before the light, hearing the bush stir before the sun even touched the horizon. We tracked leopard, tuned in to our senses, and became more aware than we’d ever been.
None of it would have been the same without our incredible guides, Mandla and Rob—whose calm presence and deep knowledge made us feel safe, inspired, and connected. Their stories, their patience, their respect for the land—it grounded us in something ancient and essential.
What an unforgettable experience with great friends
Africa—you’re in my blood.
