When people talk about authenticity, they usually mean living and expressing in a way that aligns with your true self, rather than with the expectations, masks, or roles imposed by society, family, or even your own fears.

To me, authenticity has a few layers:

Inner alignment – Your thoughts, feelings, and actions are in harmony. You aren’t saying one thing but secretly believing another.
Courageous honesty – You allow yourself to be seen as you are—your values, quirks, vulnerabilities, and strengths—without trying to constantly shape-shift for approval.
Living from essence, not ego – Ego tries to protect us through roles, masks, and identities. Authenticity asks: What’s deeper than that? What’s the voice of my essence, my soul, my dharma?
Presence – Authenticity often shows up in the moment, when you drop self-consciousness and simply are.
That doesn’t mean you have to “bare all” at all times. Authenticity isn’t raw exposure; it’s more about integrity. Sometimes it’s quietly holding your truth, sometimes it’s voicing it, sometimes it’s making choices that honor your inner compass rather than external pressure.
In yoga philosophy, authenticity is close to Satya (truthfulness) and Svadhyaya (self-study)—a living practice of being real with yourself and others.

✨ So perhaps authenticity isn’t something we “achieve” once and for all, but a continual practice of returning home to ourselves.
