Bee Yoga
An holistic approach to promote health and wellness using yoga, pilates and mindfulness exercises within schools and the community. Children are bombarded with sensory overload of information in a fast pace, competitive world leaving them overwhelmed and out of balance. The aim of Bee Yoga is to balance the mind, body and emotional well-being of children.
Initially when Bee Yoga first started I was focused on improving the physical body with the idea of getting children to move in a more fluid, functional fun way with yoga and pilates inspired movements focusing on building up their core strength, balance, co-ordination, proprioception (body awareness), improving sensory and motor development thereby improving muscle tone, flexibility and over all strength in a fun, non-competitive environment.
Then I did my Kids Yoga teacher training, began to deepen my own yoga practice I started to latch on to the idea of “Mindfulness” ...
By captivating children for 30 - 45 min out of their day-to-day lives where they can go on a journey of self-discovery, using their imaginations, focus on being in the present moment and going internally in a child friendly manner. Mindfulness teaches children how to tune in on their breath, their bodies, their senses, holding particular poses which require balance, co-ordination and skill, therefore improving their concentration and focus. It has been shown that yoga and mindfulness techniques can help children with ADHD, autism, sensory processing disorders and improve the cognitive and motor development of children.
